LIBRAR
• is a collection of sources of information and
similar resources, made accessible to a
defined community for reference or borrowing
• is organized for use and maintained by a
public body, an institution, a corporation, or a
private individual.
ISSUE
• The students of LLCI are given a privilege to
borrow any book for whatever reason. The
School Library offers a wide variety of books
such as Inspirational down to Fictional Books.

• However, the students are only allowed to

borrow the book for a certain span of time. For
example:
ISSUE
Filipiniana – 3 days
Inspirational – 3 days
Fiction – 1 week
Non-fiction – 1 week

If the student fails to return the borrowed books

at the given span of time, he/she has to pay
fines.
ISSUE
Filipiniana – 1 peso
Inspirational – 1 peso
Fiction – 0.5 cents
Non-fiction – 0.5 cents
ISSUE
• Even though there are corresponding fines,
students still do not find time to return their
long overdue books.

• The Librarian once said, some students even

return their books months after.
• Let:
x – fines according to type of book
t – span of time acc. to type of books
d – number of days borrowed
e – number of excused days (e.g
weekends, no classes) after period of
time given
a – additional days added to span (in some
cases)
f(x)= x { [(d-t)-a] -e}
f(x)= x { [(d-t)-a] –e}
x – fines according to type of book
t – span of time acc. to type of books
d – number of days borrowed
e – number of excused days (e.g
weekends, no classes) after
period of time given
a – additional days added to span (in
some cases)
John borrowed a fictional book on January 8,
2019. However, he failed to return it in the given
time because he was enjoying the story. He only
returned it on January 28. Use a function f(x) to
represent the fines John has to pay.

f(x)= x { [(d-t)-a] -e}

= 0.5 { [(20-7) -2]-5}
= 0.5 { [(13)-2] – 5}
= 0.5 { (11) – 5}
=0.5(6) John has to pay 3 pesos
for not returning the book
on time.
f(x)= 3
Lia was greatly inspired by the Inspiration Book that
she borrowed. That’s why she planned to return the
book at the end of the month, August 30. If she
borrowed the book on August 1, 2019, use a function
f(x) to represent the fines Lia has to pay.

f(x)= x { [(d-t)-a] -e}

= 1 { [(29-3) -1]-9}
= 1 { [(26)-1] – 9}
= 1 { (25) – 9}
Lia has to pay 16 pesos
= 1 (16) for not returning the book
on time.
f(x)= 16
• Therefore, the longer the book is
overdue, the more amount the student
has to pay.

• On the other hand, returning it on time

won’t need any fines to pay.
• Students should learn to return
borrowed books on time.
• Students should practice promptness at
all times.
• If you have time, visit the library and
immerse yourself in books as they bring
about many information.
