CONTEMPORARY ART

defined as the art of the “now”


1. Art is one of the earliest and most basic form of communication such
as in the prehistoric visual artworks, folk songs and rituals.

2. Arts are ways of people to express themselves; share their individual


insights to others; and catch other people's attention, imagination,
and admiration.

3. It is produce by human creativity and skill to express oneself.

4. It comes in many forms of disciplines such as literature and media


arts, but the most familiar of which is the visual and performing arts.

A term used to desribe a wide array of artistic disciplines that are appreciated
through sight.

The art forms created primarily for its appearance rather than its practical
use.
Common examples of fine arts:

The art forms that are both aesthetically pleasing and functional.
From the Renaissance up until the twentieth century, many artists in the West
consider the decorative arts as lower version of art; makers of these artworks
were not considered as artists but rather as craftsmen.

A term used to desribe when artists use their body
and/or body movements to communicate artistic
expression in front of a live audience.

Performing arts are categorized into 3 types:


• Music
• Dance
• Theater

• It is defined as the manipulation of sound and silence.


• It blends different elements such as pitch, rhythm,
dynamics, timbre, and texture to create sound.
• It is performed by utilizing different instruments, vocal
techniques, and styles. It can be performed live or
recorded and can be prepared in advance or improvised.

Common Music genres:


1. Art Music - refers to music that stems from Western Classical Music;
usually presented and preserved through musical notations that were
developed in Europe
2. Popular Music - refers to music that is accessible and commercially
available to the public; played and disseminated through different mass
media outlets
3. Traditional Music - musical forms that are community and culturally
based; learned and preserved by passing to one generation to another
through oral communication or actual performance.
