Non Pharmacology
• Lifestyle Therapy (for Weight Loss)
• By lifestyle modification
• Lifestyle intervention consisted of a hypocalorie diet (1200–1400 kcal/day, based on
individual needs) for 6 months, followed by a mildly restricted dietary intake (a
500 kcal/day energy deficit with respect to theoretical energy expenditure) plus physical
activity (a daily walk for 30 min, 5 times weekly) with careful reinforcement during
periodical check up.
• Result : 47,7% women had achieved partial recovery, 36,9% women had fully recovered
from PCOS.
Non Pharmacology
• Lifestyle Therapy (for Weight Loss)
• Use of medications designed for weight loss
• a hypocaloric diet plus sibutramine (10 mg per day).
• Result : Body weight reduced in both groups but the reduction was greater with
sibutramine.
• A hypocaloric diet and a diet plus sibutramine both result in significant weight loss in
overweight and obese women with PCOS. Patients who received sibutramine showed a
greater weight loss and improvement in hyperandrogenemia and insulin sensitivity after
6 months of treatment.
Non Pharmacology
• Lifestyle Therapy (for Weight Loss)
• Bariatric surgery
• Indication :
• morbid obesity in all patients, defined by a body mass index (BMI) of 40 kg/m2 or more or a
BMI of 35 kg/m2 or more in the presence of significant comorbidity.
• Weight loss strategies based on caloric restriction combined with increased physical activity
had failed repeatedly
• Result : Weight loss (41 ± 9 kg after 12 ± 5 months) was paralleled by decreases in the
hirsutism score, total and free testosterone, androstenedione, and
dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate.
