• It is a branch of physics that studies the effects of changes in
temperature, pressure and volume of physical systems at a
macroscopic level.
• Historically, this science was developed from the need to increase
the efficiency of the first steam machines.

• These are based on most of the
thermodynamic considerations
• They postulate that energy can be
exchanged between physical systems in
the form of heat or work.
Primera Ley de la Termodinámica
• It is an application of the universal law of
conservation of energy to thermodynamics
and, in turn, identifies heat as a transfer of
energy. One of the statements of the first
law of thermodynamics is the following:
• The increase in the internal energy of a thermodynamic system is
equal to the difference between the amount of heat transferred to a
system and the work done by the system to its surroundings.

Donde ∆U es el incremento de energía interna del

• Pero esencialmente lo que plantea esta ley es que la
cantidad total de energía en cualquier sistema aislado
(sin interacción con ningún otro sistema) permanece
invariable con el tiempo, aunque dicha energía si
puede transformarse en otra forma de energía.

Sistema mecánico en el cual se conserva la energía, para choque
perfectamente elástico y ausencia de rozamiento.
• Para entender esta ley, es útil imaginar un
gas encerrado en un cilindro, una de cuyas
tapas es un émbolo móvil y que mediante
un mechero podemos agregarle calor. El
cambio en la energía interna del gas estará
dado por la diferencia entre el calor
agregado y el trabajo que el gas hace al
levantar el émbolo contra la presión
atmosférica.
