Chemistry Learning
3 The Impact of ICT’s
Integration
4 Challenges of ICT’s
Implementation
Definition of ICT
ICT stand for information and communication technology. It is
defined as a “diverse set of technological tools and resources
used to communicate, create, disseminate, store, and manage
information.”
These technologies include computers, the Internet,
broadcasting technologies (radio and television), and telephone
Integration of ICT
Integration of ICT into teaching learning process is a
comprehensive process in applying technology into the
curriculum to improve the teaching and learning process
(Wang and Hoo 2007)
Integration of ICT
According Onwu and Ngamo (2005 ) , the application of ICT in chemistry
includes several things:
· The use of simulation (animated multimedia) and virtual labs
· Implementation of the course uses the online way
· The use of chemical modeling software
Integration of ICT
Gulińska (2005 ) said that the use of ICT in learning
chemistry include: the use of multimedia-based text
books, the use of interesting animation, and
management aspects of ICT services
The Positive Impact of ICT
1) System complex learning can be simulated,
2) Modeling and visualization can be used to bridge between
experience and abstraction,
3) The interesting topics can be discussed with the experts
outside the classroom (Mork, 2005)
The Negative Impact of ICT
Internet opens free opportunities for each user
Challenges of ICT’s Implementation
Several challenges need to be faced in terms of the use
of ICT implementation such as: incomplete hardware,
incomplete infrastructure, inadequate access to
educational software, the weakness of teachers in
implementation ICT-based education . ( Mork 2005)
