1.SENSOR
INTRODUCTION

A device which provides a us ble output in response to a specified measurement. suitable for processing (e.g. optical,
electrical, mechanical)
• Nowadays common sensors convert measurement of physical phenomena into an electrical signal
• a sensor is a device, module, or subsystem whose purpose is to detect events or changes in its environment and send
the information to other electronics, frequently a computer processor . A sensor is always used with other electronics.
Need for Sensors
• Sensors are pervasive. They are embedded in our bodies, automobiles, airplanes, cellular telephones, radios,
chemical plants, industrial plants and countless other applications. Sensors are used in everyday objects such as
touch-sensitive elevator buttons (tactile sensor) and lamps which dim or brighten by touching the base, besides
innumerable applications of which most people are never aware.
Application area of sensors

 Packaging material handling

 Industrial and machine
 Doors
 Web brake
 Level control
Advantages of sensor

 High Current Capability

 Low cost
 Sense all kinds of material
 Long life
 Very fast response time
 Easy to install
 Can detect non metallic target
Limitation of sensors

 Requires physical contact with target

Contact bounce
 Lens subject to contamination
 Sensing range affected by color and reflectivity of target
 Distance limitation
 Very sensitive to extreme environmental change
RFID

Radio frequency identification is an automatic ID system. Like a barcode or the

magnetic strip on a credit card, an RFID tag provides a unique identification code
that can be read by a scanning device. Unlike other ID systems, RFID uses radio
waves to communicate with readers. When a reader picks up these waves, it
converts them into digital data that identifies the object that contains the tag.
RFID APPLICATION

 Manufacturing and Processing

-Inventory and production process monitoring
-Warehouse order fulfillment
 Supply Chain Management
– Inventory tracking systems
– Logistics management
….CONT

•RFID tags are very easy to install/inject inside the body of animals, thus helping to
keep a track on them. This is useful in animal husbandry and the poultry industry,
wherein the installed tags give information about the age, vaccinations, and health
of the animal.
ADVANTAGE OF RFID

•It is better than barcodes, as it cannot be easily replicated, and therefore, increases
the security on a product.
•Supply chain management forms the major part of retail business, and RFID
systems play a key role by helping in managing the updates of stocks, and during
the transportation and logistics of the product.
…CONT
 Security
– Access control
– Counterfeiting and Theft control/prevention
 Location Tracking
– Traffic movement control and parking management
– Wildlife/Livestock monitoring and tracking
DISADVANTAGE OF RFID

•RFID proves to be too expensive for many applications as compared to other

tracking and identification methods, such as the simple barcode.

•It is difficult for an RFID reader to read the information in case the tags are
installed in liquid or metal products. The problem here is that, liquid and metal
surfaces tend to reflect radio waves, which makes the tags unreadable
3D INTERFACE

 A user interface that involves 3D interaction.

 Three-dimensional user interface is A human-computer interaction

that users can directly carry out the tasks in the 3D space.
APPLICATION OF 3D INTERFACE

 Simulation Shows
The simulation shows have a typical application in simulation systems,
PC games ,prototype construction
 Developing visualizations
It’s used to remind of thermographic images
…CONT

 Real-World Metaphors
The main feature is that the whole area of human activity can
inspire and guide the design of 3D UI.
ADVANTAGE OF 3D INTERFACE

 Scenario context
3D scenario enhanced the users’ comprehensive capabilities of dealing with
information, including awareness, perception, learning and memory.
 Information visualization
3D information visualization makes information shows more directly and more
easily to understanding.
…CONT

 Interaction Experience
3D interaction can introduce many more natural and rich actions in the real
world to traditional human-computer interaction; On the other hand it can show
a more attractive new interactive way through breaking the world restrictions.
DISADVANTAGE OF 3D INTERFACE

 Lacks of constraint
 Lacks of standard
 Lack of precision
 Layout more complex
 Perception
4.TOUCH SCREEN

 A touchscreen a computer display screen that is sensitive to human touch. The

display screen has a sensitive glass over lay placed on it and we could give the
desired in put by touching it.A touchscreen kit includes a touchscreen panel,
controlled and a soft ware driver.
APPLICATION OF TOUCH SCREEN

Cell phones
PDAs
ATM machine
Video games and
Super market terminals.
ADVANTAGE OF TOUCH SCREEN

 A user operates an electronic device by directly touching

the images on the display he is seeing, the operation will
be intuitive, thus anyone can operate it from first use.
 Flexible
DISADVANTGAE OF TOUCH SCREEN

 Touch screen is difficult to be operated for the visually

impaired. Some creative ways to let them known where to
touch are needed. Sound navigation and/ or physical
buttons might be helpful in combination with touch screen.
…CONT
 Since a display is directly touched, the display may get
dirty, then become less visible. A direct touch may also
cause scratches on the screen that may cause malfunction
in some cases.
