INTRODUCTION
 A programme targeted at educators who want to enhance their
academic and professional knowledge and skills through
disciplined inquiry and reflective thinking.

 The acquisition of sound principles and techniques essential to


work effectively in a wide range of educational settings.

 The research tools to actively engage in educational research at


the graduate level.

 Knowledge and skills necessary to promote the effective use of


technology in a learner-centered environment.
PROGRAMME STRUCTURE
 Comprises of TWO distinct components:

 a Common Core of 10 subjects focusing on the foundations of


education.

 A Specialization of 4 subjects emphasizing on the knowledge and


skills of a selected field. There are 10 areas of specialization.

 Included in the specialization is a Project Paper in the area of


specialization to deepen understanding.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT
To be admitted into the Master of Education (M.Ed)
programmme, a candidate must possess:

 A Bachelor degree in education approved by AeU


Senate;
OR
 Possess a degree and teaching or related experience
for a period of two years;
OR

OPEN ENTRY ! (recognize by MOHE, 2006)


Entry Requirements: OPEN ENTRY

 should be at least 35 years old;


 possess STPM / HSC / A-Level /
Foundation or Diploma or its equivalent;
 provide evidence or prior learning experience and/or
knowledge relevant to the programme.

MQA: Programme at the Master’s level – the candidate should be more than 30
years of age in the year of application, possess at least STPM / diploma /
equivalent (e.g., foundation), with relevant work experience.

 There are a maximum of TEN chapters in


each of the subjects / modules.

 All notes are available online (PLS) where


students are advise to download.
ASSESSMENT
The subjects in the M.Ed programme are
assessed as follows:

 40% on EXAMINATION
and
 60% on COURSEWORK
Examination: 40 %
The Examination is a 3 hour sit down closed-book test
consisting of:

 5 to 6 essay questions worth


10 marks each.
 Candidates select and answer
only 4 questions only.

Past year final exam paper can be found from AeU Knowledge Centre
Coursework: 60 %
The coursework assessment component is based on
TWO assignments:

Assignment 1: 20%

and

Assignment 2: 40%
Grading System (Postgraduate)
Mark Grade Point Value Status
80 – 100 A 4.00 Excellent
• Passing Grade
75 – 79 A- 3.75 Very Good The general passing grade for postgraduate is
a B and above.
70 – 74 B+ 3.50 Good
• Repeating Failed Subjects
65 – 69 B 3.00 Pass
For calculating the CGPA, the new grade will
60 – 64 B- 2.75 Marginal Pass be counted.
55 – 59 C+ 2.50 Marginal Pass • Repeating Subjects for Grade
Improvement
50 – 54 C 2.00 Marginal Pass A student is allowed to improve grades by
45 – 49 C- 1.75 Marginal Pass repeating the subject. The better grade will
be counted.
40 – 44 D+ 1.50 Marginal Pass
• Other Status
35 – 39 D 1.00 Marginal Pass Research work is graded either as
0 - 34 F 0.00 Fail Satisfactory “S” or Unsatisfactory “U”.
PROGRAMME DELIVERY: BLENDED LEARNING
Face-to-Face Tutorials (10 hours in THREE tutorials) are provided in the learning center
where there are sufficient number of students (more than 5 students) taking a subject.

Qualified Academic Facilitators (AF) from public and private universities are appointed to
conduct the tutorials.

Online Communication is enabled through e-mails, message boards, blogs and chat rooms
where students discuss online with the academic facilitator and other students.

Self-Study is when students set aside time to read and understand the learning materials
provided.

Students are encouraged to do the learning activities and read the support materials which
are links to websites, video clips, images and search for materials from the well-
equipped AeU Digital Library.
PROGRAMME DELIVERY:
ONLINE LEARNING
According to this mode of learning you do not attend face-to-face tutorials and
pursue the programme through:
