My country is India because my
parents are from that country!
India is located on the southern
part of Asia. Hindi, English and
Bengali are the top 3 languages
spoken in India. India’s population,
as of November 6, 2018, is
1,302,220,864 people.

GEOGRAPHY AND CLIMATE

• One important physical feature of India is the


Himalayan Mountains. The Himalayas range from
India, Nepal, China, and Bhutan. Another physical
feature of India is The Great Plains of Northern
India. Other important features of India include:
• Indus River
• Brahmaputra River
• Bay of Bengal
• The Ganges

India is New Delhi with a
population of 21.75 million
people! The overall climate in
India is hot and humid,
although in the north, there
are temperate and alpine
forests.

GOVERNMENT AND ECONOMICS

• India is a democratic republic. The president


of India is Ram Nath Kovind and the prime
minister is Narendra Modi! In some parts of
India, many people are poverty- stricken, but
now, people are building more houses to help.
• India has the second largest economy in Turmeric is one of India’s major exports
agriculture and is the world’s leading producer
of turmeric, black pepper, ginger, milk, and
cashews. India gained independence from
Britain on August 15, 1947. Some major
exports of India are petroleum, gold and silver,
and electronic goods.
FOOD AND DRINK
• Masala Dosa is one traditional food
of India that everyone has to try! It
is a rice crepe with potato or onion
curry, dipped in chutney (an indian
dip). Another traditional food of
India is the Biryani. Biryani is dish
prepared with rice and lentils. One
traditional drink of India is Lassi.
The Lassi is a yogurt drink which is
garnished with fruits.
VALUES AND BELIEFS

The first largest religion practiced in India is


Hinduism! The second largest is Islam and
the third largest is Christianity. In India,
most religions believe that once you die,
you go to paradise, but Hindus have a belief
in incarnation. The many gods and
goddesses of the indian culture derive from
one supreme being known as Brahman.
FAMILY AND EDUCATION
Many Indians live in small nuclear
families. Inequality between women
and men is significant in all of India.
Women are expected to care for
the house and the family and
typically don’t receive a good
education. 35 million children
between the age of 6 and 14 do not
attend school.
CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS
Diwali is a major celebration in
India. Diwali is the festival of lights
and it lasts for 5 days! On the days
of Diwali, people sing, dance, and eat
food! Holi is another important
celebration which celebrates the
beauty of colors! The symbol of
hello in India is the Namaste.
SCIENTIFIC CONTRIBUTIONS
India made the decimal system! C.V.
Raman is a famous scientist from India
who was the first Asian person to receive
a Nobel peace prize! He discovered that
when light passes through a transparent
material, some of the light changes in C.V. Raman
wavelength.

• 3 quarters of all energy production
in India comes from fossil fuels.
Coal is the most used non-
renewable resource in India. About Coal
44% of all Indians use coal! India is
now starting to use renewable
resources such as hydropower and
biomass. 17% of India uses
hydropower and 2% uses biomass.
