Introduction

Public Speaking

Presentations that Matter

Why is communication
important in our everyday
lives?
– “… being able to speak well can help you
effectively share your message with a variety of
people (investors, customers, colleagues,
managers, friends, etc) and will allow you to make
your point in everyday life situations, such as
those that take place at school, work, home, and
your larger community” (pg. 4).
How do YOU
define
communication?

How does the

textbook define
communication?
Communication focuses on how people use
messages to generate meanings within and
across various contexts, and is the discipline that
studies all forms, modes, media, and consequences
of communication through humanistic, social
