AGWA Motivation

Active Management of Ground Water Aquifers

• Sufficient water at appropriate quality is probably the main
challenge for humanity in the years to come.

• Ground water supply plays an important role in many

countries.

• Ground water aquifers shares many of the characteristics of

petroleum reservoirs.

• The petroleum industry has competence and technology

that might be useful in active management of ground water
aquifers.

Ground Water Aquifers

Active Management of Ground Water Aquifers

• General water shortage
• Little control of production of aquifers
• Unsuficcient geological and seismic information.

• Subsidence
• Uncertain level of recharge

• Pollution
• Low control of sources of pollution
• Severity of pollution

AGWA initiative

Active Management of Ground Water Aquifers

• Coordinate logging of data in the petroleums- and
water sector.
• Map and exploit coastal aqifers in deeper layers.
• Introduce the Norwegian model on recource-
management.
