Making Custom Icons

Make sure you enter “Slide Show” view before you begin,

What are icons and why make them?
WHAT
Icons are images that represent things, people, and sometimes places.
Icons are often simplified versions of things we find in life.

WHY
Icons can be used as custom logos or even emojis.
Icons will also add a fun personal touch to your presentations.
Icons that you create are also icons that you own.

We will be making two separate icons.
Dialogue boxes and an ice cream cone.
Follow the tutorials to practice making icons.

Dialogue Boxes Icon

How are we going to make this icon?

Step 1: Click on “Insert”

Step 2: Click on “Shapes”

Step 3: In the drop down menu, click on the “Oval”

Step 4: Click and drag the mouse to create a circle.

It should be at minimum this size.

Step 5: Click on “Shape Outline” and select “No Outline”

Step 7 : In the drop down menu, click on the “Rectangle”

Step 8: Click and drag the mouse to create the rectangle.

It should be at minimum this size.

The rectangle should be the same color as the circle.

Step 9: Click on “Shape Outline” and select “No Outline”

Step 11: In the drop down menu, click on the “Speech Bubble: Rectangle”

Step 12: Click and drag the mouse to create the speech box.

Repeat this Process to create two separate shapes.

One speech box must be smaller then the other.

Step 13: Click on “Shape Fill” then “White” to make the speech box white.

Step 14: Repeat Step 13 for the remaining speech box so both are white.

Step 15: Click on “Shape Outline” and select “No Outline”

Step 16: Repeat Step 15 so both speech boxes do not have outlines.

Step 17: Click on the big speech box, drag the yellow circle outward to adjust the pointed end.

Step 18: Click on the small speech box and drag the yellow circle to the right then outward

Step 19: Arrange the shapes as followed.
Adjust sizes if needed.

Step 20: Hold down “Shift” and click each of the three boxes
Right click to bring up the options and click on “Group.”
When the drop down menu appears click “Group” again.

Step 21: Put the grouped boxes on the circle.

Step 22: Shift select both the circle and the boxes.

Step 25: Select both the circle and the boxes (if needed).
With both the circle and grouped boxes selected right click to bring up the menu.
Group the circle and boxes together.

Step 26: Right click the image and click “Save as Picture.”
Create a name for the icon and save it to your computer

Change the “Foreground” color to “Orange Accent 2 Darker 50%”

Go to “Rotate” and select “Flip Vertical”

Create 2 more circles so that you have a total of 3
These will be our ice cream scoops. You may make them any color you like.

Step 17 (cont.): Change the size of the circles.
Make the first circle the largest.
The second circle should be a bit smaller then the dark pink.
The last circle will be the smallest.
If you want to pick your own colors for the ice cream skip the next 3 steps.

Step 18: Change the fill of the first circle.
Go to “Fill” then “More Fill Colors” Click on “Custom” and set each color.
Set “Color model” to “RGB”. Setting “Red” to 255, set “Green” to 80, set “Blue” to 80

Step 19: Change the fill of the second circle.
Change the fill of the second circle to “Orange Accent 2 Lighter 60%”

Step 20: Change the fill of each circle.
Change the fill of the last circle to “Orange Accent 2 Darker 50%”

It should be a bit smaller then the size of the circles we made


earlier.

Step 24 : Change the fill of the cloud to white.

Do not remove the outline

circle.

It should be at minimum this size.

When the drop down menu appears click “Group” again.

With both the circle and ice cream selected right click to bring up the menu.
Group the two together.

Create a name for the icon and save it to your computer
