Introduction

Sex education is the instruction of issues relating to human

sexuality, including emotional relations and responsibilities, human
sexual anatomy, sexual activity, sexual reproduction, age of consent,
reproductive health, reproductive rights, safe sex, birth control and
sexual abstinence. Sex education helps people gain the information,
skills and motivation to make healthy decisions about sex and
sexuality. It transforms children into responsible adults. It is a known
fact that teenagers today turn sexually active, therefore, sex
education can help them understand the benefit of abstinence in the
early years or it can at least teach them how to be responsible
sexually active.
Although some form of sex education is part of the curriculum at
many schools, it remains a controversial issue in several countries,
particularly with regard to the age at which children should start
receiving such education, the amount of detail which is revealed, and
topics dealing with human sexuality and behavior (eg. safe sex
practices and masturbation, and sexual ethics).
Parents, students and teachers need to understand sex
education because for them to have the right information about
human sexuality as stated by Oscar Auliq ( 2018 ) that “ Having a
good sense of humor about sex will keep things in perspective. ”
Parents should be the first educator to their children with regards
to sex education for them to be aware about human sexuality as
stated by Rod Mckuen ( 2018 ) he said that, “ We need sex education
in schools, but we need it at home first. ”
