Advantages of creating a Healthy Environment
Our environment consists of much more than the walls that surround us at work or home.
It is the air we breathe, the water we consume, and the soil beneath our feet–all of which
can help us live healthier lives if they are taken care of and maintained. Some advantages
of this are:

• Protect us from diseases, infections, water borne diseases and pollution

• It improves cleanliness of our streets, roads, villages and cities.
• Help reduce soil, air, and water pollution.
• Helps control the quality of certain products, edible items, meat, vegetables and
drinking water quality.
Effects of an unhealthy Environment

Climate Change

Climate change is a change in the statistical distribution of weather patterns

when that change lasts for an extended period of time.
The major factors that affect climate change

Global Warming

Earth’s average temperature has increased about 1 degree in the 20th century
to approximately 59 degrees, but the rate of warming in the last three decade
s has been three times the average rate since 1900. Seas have risen about six
to eight feet globally over the last century and are rising at a higher rate.
Why is our planet getting warmer ?

The normal greenhouse effect warms

Earth to a hospitable temperature. An increase in greenhouse gases intensifie
s the greenhouse effect, trapping more heat and raisings the earth's temperat
ure.
These “greenhouse” gases include:
• Carbon dioxide
• Methane
• Nitrous oxide.
Why is our planet getting warmer ?

Green gases are formed in many ways such as:

 We burn fossil fuels (oil, natural gas, coal and wood products, which
release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
 We produce coal, natural gas, and oil, which emit methane.
 Livestock and the decomposition of organic wastes also produce methane.
 Agricultural and industrial processes emit nitrous oxide.

Importance of a Healthy Environment

It is very crucial that we know the importance of a healthy environment.

A clean and hygienic environment is very essential to a healthy living.
Therefore, we must protect and keep it safe to ensure nature’s balance on the
earth.
The natural environment plays a great role in the existence of life on earth. A
healthy environment helps human beings, animals and other living things to
grow and develop naturally. We refer to an environment as healthy when
natural cycle goes side by side without any disturbance.
Importance of a Healthy Environment

However, environmental pollution has become one of the biggest problems we are facing to
day due to human activities and technological advancement.
Human activities and technological advancement affect the natural environment and we all
must work together to preserve it.
Environmental pollution is affecting our daily lives negatively, as contamination of the
environment causes diseases which humans suffer from. In addition, there are various
cycles which occur regularly between the environment and living things to maintain the
nature’s balance. However, by any means if such cycles get disturbed, nature’s balance also
gets disturbed which ultimately affects human lives.
Importance of a Healthy Environment

People can suffer from:

Bronchitis- this is excessive mucus flow
and continuous coughing
Emphysema- this when the bronchial tubes
are constricted and the air sacs in the lungs
makes it difficult to breathe.

How the environment affects your Health

Clean air, water, plants, and food supplies are essential for our personal health and wellbeing.
The relationship between the environment and humanity is one of interdependence—each affects
the other. Therefore, just as our actions and choices affect the environment, the health of the
planet influences our own personal health and wellbeing, as well as our communities, families,
and economies.

Humans have an innate connection to nature. Research indicates that just being around greenery
can boost mood and lower blood pressure, as well as improve attention and the ability to reflect
upon a problem.
How an unhealthy environment affects you

Air toxics are mostly man-made pollutants that come from substances (like gasoline,
dry-cleaning facilities, and paint solvents) that contaminate the air, water, and food supplies. The
EPA warns that exposure to toxic air pollutants can increase risk for cancer, as well as damage
the immune, neurological, reproductive, and respiratory systems.
How an unhealthy environment affects you

According to the EPA, contaminated water may cause a large number of health consequences,
including gastrointestinal illness, increased risk of cancer, liver and kidney damage, central
nervous system problems, reproductive difficulties, and anemia. Water supplies are contaminated
by humans in a number of ways, including chemical discharges from factories and emissions that
result from burning waste.
How an unhealthy environment affects you

The World Health Organization estimates that air pollution in urban areas is responsible for an
estimated 1.3 million deaths worldwide per year, and 19% of all cancers are caused by
environmental factors such as outdoor air pollution, heating and cooking fuels, and second-hand
smoke.
How an unhealthy environment affects you

Bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical often found in plastic water bottles, food cans, and cash receipts,
appears to mimic the effects of estrogen and may increase risk for reproductive disorders.
Contributions to a
Healthy Environment
Contributions to a Healthy Environment
It is the moral duty of every human being on this planet contribute to the environment positively in order
to maintain its health.

Here are some of the things which we can do to contribute to a healthy environment:

• Try to use less fertilizer or use organic fertilizers instead because when it rains, fertilizers drain into s
treams along with rain water.

• Use bucket for washing cars or other vehicles, instead of hose. Because the water running from hose
while you are working wastes a lot of water.

• Take your own canvas bag to the grocery shop and reuse it each time you go for shopping.

• Try to conserve energy by switching off the lights, fans and other electrical appliances when not in
use. This will also help in reducing your bill to a much greater extent.

• Select products made from recycled materials or designed to be safer for the environment.

• Avoid waiting in long drive-thru lines at fast-food restaurants or banks. Park your car and go in. This
is to lessen the fumes emitted from the cars exhaust.
