Peace, justice and strong

institutions

SDG #16
Presented by: SAW
Institutions
When we hear institutions our mind go straight towards Formal institutions
like judiciary, police and other government entities but what about informal
institutions??
Institutions are "stable, valued, recurring patterns of behavior“
Informal institutions: like customs, traditions, and norms
Formal institutions: like judiciary etc
Unfortunately saying, as a citizen of developing country we need to re-define
the concept of the state; a strong institution that is able to function and offer an
actual alternative for the daily-life problems.
Institutions in Pakistan
Strong institutions
What is crucially needed is a humanitarian inclusive strong institutions that are
in a relatively efficient non-corrupted framework provides the fundamental
needs for every individual in the society.
Humanely speaking, five primitive rights are to be settled and provided by the public
institutions for every individual in any humane society; water, food, shelter, health and
education.
To establish strong institutions at the national and international levels and ensure equal
access to justice for all in a global geopolitical context as far as the SDGs of the UN are
promoting, these three objectives have to be fundamentally settled on the micro-local
scale of the core.
e.g to make our institutions strong we need to start at ndividual level, everyone noble or
ordinary needs to follow rules govern by institutions thus make them strong
How to have Strong institutions

CLEAN WATER
Peace and justice
In a world plagued by war and terror, violence and destruction, people of faith
have a clear call to build peace with justice.
“The Prophet Muhammad mentioned that one of the reasons behind the
ruination of a nation is a lack of commutative justice. In this context, he
mentioned that if his very daughter were to steal, he would not hesitate to
punish her to the full extent of the law.”
FACTS
&
FIGURES
Peace and Justice are the birth rights of every kid
instead of feeding people we are bombing them!!
Peace and justice
“Mr Jinnah had declared one of the government’s foremost duties
as maintaining law and order so that the life, property and
religious beliefs of all were fully protected”
We know the presence of political and social chaos can be caused by a number
of issues including economic disparity, environmental degradation, gender
inequality, racism and xenophobia, and illness and disease.
If we want peace, we must be committed to disrupting these conditions and
systems that perpetuate injustice.
As to attain peace and justice a country must has government that function
within the Constitution, which do not replace cabinet rule with prime
ministerial sanction — for which the Supreme Court of Pakistan recently
censured the government.
Sustainable Development Goals #16
SDG 16 has all signatories to the new development goals to “promote peaceful and inclusive societies
for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and
inclusive institutions at all levels.”

Under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, SDG 16 has 12 targets that include reduction in
violence and related death rates
1. an end to abuse, trafficking, exploitation
2. violence and torture of children
3. rule of law and equal access to justice
4. substantial reduction in corruption and bribery
5. effective, accountable and transparent institutions;
6. responsive, inclusive, participatory
7. representative decision-making
8. provision of legal identity for all, including birth registration
9. public access to information
10. protection of fundamental freedoms
11. an strengthening of institutions to prevent violence
12. combat terrorism and crime.
SDG #16 and Pakistan
as things stand, Pakistan faces formidable difficulties in realizing the targets set for
SDG 16.

Pakistan needs a political system that can, for instance, stabilize Baluchistan through a
political solution addressing the alienation of its people, a system that goes beyond the
18th Amendment (instead of craving for its roll-back), and that is capable of rejecting
the thesis of militant extremists instead of competing with them. If Pakistan cannot
move towards a complete overhaul of governance, its objectives and implanted
policies, it will not be able to achieve even simpler targets, such as the registration of
births and the control of crime, and will remain trapped in a ‘fragile situation.’
