M&E SYSTEM AT FACULTY OF CIVIL AND ENVIRONMENTAL

ENGINEERING BUILDING

LECTURER: PROF. DR. ISMAIL BIN ABDUL RAHMAN, DR.

SASITHARAN A/L NAGAPAN .
INTRODUCTION
The FKAAS (Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering) building
area is about 21,066 m².
The building consists of 25 laboratories.
FKAAS also have their 10 rooms that being prepared to be used for
lectures and tutorial.
The building also equips with 3 meeting room, and 1 resources centre
which was built for students to refer to undergraduate and postgraduate
theses and technical papers.
The M&E component that our group
focussing on are:

1. FIRE SAFETY

2. VENTILATION

3. ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION
The area that we are focusing at
are;

 FKAAS LOBBY AREA

METHODOLOGY
1. GROUP MEETING AND PLANNING
Before conducting the site visit, the team meeting and doing a
research to identify the M&E aspects in the FKAAS building.

2. SITE VISIT
Our team referred to the M&E drawing that we get from Universiti
Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia Facility And Hospitality Development
Department to get the full image of how the building schematic
drawing is.
M&E
COMPONENT
FIRE FIRE SAFETY IN FKAAS
 ACTIVE FIRE PROTECTION
SAFETY Active Fire Protection (AFP) is a group of
systems that require some amount of action or
motion in order to work efficiently in the event
of a fire.

 PASSIVE FIRE PROTECTION

Passive Fire Protection (PFP) is a group of
systems that compartmentalize a building
through the use of fire-resistance rated
walls/floors.
ACTIVE FIRE • ALARM BELL

PROTECTION

• BREAK GLASS CALL BUTTON

• FIRE EXTINGUISHER • HOSE REEL

• SPRINKLER
PASSIVE 1. FIRE RESISTANT DOOR

FIRE
PROTECTION

2. EMERGENCY EXIT
• OPENING OPERATION (FIRE
STAIRS)
VENTILATION • DOOR

• EXHAUST
• WINDOW • PLENUM
• AIR CONDITIONING
ELECTRICAL • The main components of electrical
DISTRIBUTION distribution is power supply and power
control. Both of them can be
categorized in various ways, including
by functional features.
1. Power • A power supply is an electrical device
that supplies electric power to an
Supply electrical load. The primary function of
a power supply is to convert electric
current from a source to the correct
voltage, current, and frequency to
power the load.
2. Main • The main switch, also referred to as a
distribution board, divides the feed of
Switch electrical power to a building into
subsidiary circuits and provides a
protective fuse for each circuit.

• When a circuit is overloaded, the fuse

at the main switch is popped. This
effectively stops power from flowing
through the circuit and prevents fire
from the overload.
3. Circuit • A circuit breaker is an automatically
operated electrical switch designed to
Breaker protect an electrical circuit from
damage caused by excess current,
typically resulting from an overload or
short circuit.
4. Earth • An Earth-leakage circuit breaker
(ELCB) is a safety device used in
Leakage electrical installations with high Earth
Circuit impedance to prevent shock.

Breaker
5. Supply • Three-phase power supply system,
three conductors each carry an
Cable alternating current of the same
frequency and voltage amplitude
relative to a common reference but
with a phase difference of one third the
period.
6. Electrical • An electric switchboard is a device that
directs electricity from one or more
Switch sources of supply to several smaller
Board regions of usage.
CONCLUSION • Overall, the site visit and knowledge in
mechanical and electrical system are
very useful in determining and identify
the component and aspects that need
to exists in a building to maintain the
comfortability of building inhabitant
for human.
