Introduction :
A slum is an over crowded poverty in a sticken
area having lack of open spaces and presence of
unhealthy living conditions and residential
structures
The formation of slum converts the land into a
place with miseries
A slum is an area that combines to various extends
like :
•Inadequate access to safe water
•Inadequate access to sanitation
•Poor structural quality of housing
•Over crowding
•Insecure residential status
LOCATION : Shadipur depot area ,Delhi ,India
TOTAL AREA : 52000sq.m(5.2HECTARES)
EXSISTENCE :almost 40years of slum
largest slum of Delhi
and is surrounded by raheja building blocks
TYPE OF occupation : Puppeters , magicians , folk singers ,dancers ,
storytellers , snake charmers etc .
NO.OF FAMILIES : it is home to some 2,800 families
HISTORY: This started with a travelling banjara tribe settles at the edge of
the city to famine and increase in demand in their art and craft
 types of artists :
 REASONS FOR REDEVELOPMENT :
•Narrow streets
•No drainage facility
•Garbage on the street
•No proper sanitation
•No proper infrastructure
 NEED FOR REDEVELOPMENT :
•To create better living conditions for the people in
slums
•Homelessness ,degraded living conditions
•Streets are narrow
•No proper space for recreational purposes
•Illegal constructions
•The area lack with the basic utilities with on road
running sewage and garbage and also no proper
ventilation
Overview of the
redevelopment schemes:
•In 2004 DDA ran a scheme to redevelop the slum and provide
houses with Hygenic conditions
•In 2008 tenders were invited
•In 2009 kathputli colony was sold by DDA to RAHEJA developers
for 6crores
•Under this scheme resettlement will be done on the land
occupied by the jhuggie jophri(clusters with private partnership)
•The 2800 families of the kathputli shall be given lease of life with
the modern apartments
•Each apartment shall be 30sq.m in size
•Till these structures are built these families shall be rehabited to
A TRANSIT CAMP facility at ANAND PARVATH barely
•This shall take about 2-3 years for building to be ready
