FACILITY LAYOUT:
Facility layout is an arrangement of different aspects of manufacturing in an appropriate manner as to
achieve desired production results. Facility layout considers available space, final product, safety of users and
facility and convenience of operations.
Facility Layout Objective:
 To provide optimum space to organize equipment and facilitate movement of goods and to create safe and
comfortable work environment.
 To promote order in production towards a single objective
 To reduce movement of workers, raw material and equipment
 To promote safety of plant as well as its workers
 To facilitate extension or change in the layout to accommodate new product line or technology upgradation
 To increase production capacity of the organization.
But the important and overall objective is to increase efficiency of layout i.e more productive and cost
effective layout.

Types of Layout:
o PROCESS LAYOUT(i.e)
o PRODUCT LAYOUT
o FIXED-POSITION LAYOUT
o CELLULAR LAYOUT
o COMBINATION LAYOUTS
Compresso Cookers Ltd.
Location: MIDC Industrial Area, Turbhe, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra 400705.

Facility Layout:

• This Layout is process Layout of manufacturing of cookers.

• This facility is about 12,500 sq feet Facility.

• It has following main divisions :- Material area 1 ,Material area 2, Manufacturing of cooker Lids and Body,
Manual area, Assembly area,Packaging area,stamkping,Warehousing,Office.

• This facility includes: 53 skilled workers(fabricators & welders), 7 unskilled workers, 1 Production manager,
1 Quality Inspector, 1 Accountant,2 Clerk.

• Advantage of the facility it is touched to the highway.

Observations : -
 The overall space is not used till optimum,as there are empty spaces between ware house-manual area-inspection.

 The passage between the divisions is less ,making it difficult to transport goods between the divisions.

 Due to conjusted layout there are chances of collusion of products leading to losses.

 The divisions which need to be adjacent or diagonal ,are far aside. For eg, Distance between Mater. area A and
Mater.Area B Area is too large, resulting in an inconvenient and time-consuming transportation.

 The Rework division ,it should be nearer assembly division.

 The office should not be there in between the production process.

 The ware house is not properly placed ,as at time of loading trucks it will become tedious work.

 There is no R & D centre and medical rooms in case of emergency accidents.

 The rest room is that zone where there is a lot of disturbance.

 The parking should be nearer to exit .

 The refreshment area is in the facility itself,it can be hazardous to health as to small chemical particles can come in
food.

Observations after optimizations: -
 The overall space is optimized , no large empty space.

 The passage between the divisions is made large so that commuting gets better.

 The divisions which are highly dependent on each other are kept side by side or adjacent.

 All the process of production are aligned in way such that the production can presume in more optimum efficienc

 The Rework division is made nearer assembly division.

 The office is placed in such a way that people can easily access it from outside .

 The ware house is placed near trucks loading area so time of loading goods lessens greatly.

 There is an Emergency Medical Aid Out side facility.

 The refreshment area is made outside the facility to make it free from all kinds of dust particles.

 The parking is made nearer to exit so that it becomes feasible.

 More green zone surrounding the facility.

 Factory Outlet is set as it can allure the customers from roadside
