SUBSTANCE IS AN ELEMENT OR A COMPOUND

 Elements-the atoms in a  Compounds- substance that is


sample of matter are made from 2 or more simpler
alike; can’t be broken substances
down into simpler  Can be broken down into simpler
substances (i.e. Carbon substances
or Hydrogen or Helium)  The ratio of atoms is always the

same (i.e. H20, CO2)

Hydrogen, (O)Oxygen, (Fe) Iron,
(Al)Aluminum, (S) Silicon

Compound examples- (H2O)


Water, (NaCl) Sodium chloride,
(MgSO4) Magnesium
