A. William exerted power taking control of his new
lands, keeping land to himself, monitored who build
castle and where they were build, and
he had the last word, he also granted fiefs to the
church and Normand lords..
4. What principles were established by the Carta
Magna?
A. The Carta Magna established all feudal rights,
and besides protecting their own privileges, they
defend our(town people) privileges. Nobles had
certain rights and monarchs must obey the law.
No freeman shall be arrested and not rise new taxes
without consulting his great council.
5. How did the Capetians increase royal power in
France?
A. They made the throne hereditary, they added to
their lands by playing rival nobles against each
other. They also won the support of the church.
