 An energy meter is a device that measures the amount
of electrical energy consumed by a residence, business,
or an electrically powered device.
 Electric meters are typically calibrated in billing units,
the most common one being the kilowatt hour.
 A scheme of Electricity billing system called
“PREPAID ENERGY METER WITH TARIFF
INDICATOR” can facilitate in improved cash flow
management in energy utilities and can reduces
problem associated with billing consumer living in
isolated area and reduces deployment of manpower for
taking meter readings.
When the purchased units are used up by the
meter disconnects the power supply until the
next recharge.The system will automatically
notify the consumer to recharge before zero
balance; unit recharge will be done by the
service provider.
 Cost effective ‘pay as you use’
 Accuracy
 Better energy management.
 Better operational efficiency as no need
manpower for meter reading
Prepaid energy meter has many advantages both from
Suppliers as well as consumer’s point as follows:-
Why prepayment ?
No bill production
for No bill distribution
No need to chase payments

 Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is an automatic
identification method, relying on storing and remotely
retrieving data using devices called RFID tags or
transponders. The technology requires some extent of
cooperation of an RFID reader and an RFID tag.

A basic RFID system consists of three components:
a) An antenna or coil
b) A transceiver (with decoder)
c) A transponder (RF tag)

Electric Meter, or Watt-hour Meter, a device that
measures the quantity of electric energy. One kilowatt
hour is the quantity of electric energy needed to supply
1,000 watts of electricity for a span of one hour.

 A relay is a simple electromechanical switch made up
of an electromagnetand a set of contacts. Relays are
found hidden in all sorts of devices. In fact, some of the
first computers ever built used relays to
implement Boolean gates.
 GSM is a mobile communication modem; it is stands
for global system for mobile communication (GSM).
 GSM is an open and digital cellular technology used
for transmitting mobile voice and data services operates
at the 850MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz and 1900MHz
frequency bands.
 Another type of circuit that produces the
same output waveform as the full wave
rectifier circuit above, is that of the Full Wave
Bridge Rectifier. This type of single phase
rectifier uses four individual rectifying diodes
connected in a closed loop “bridge”
configuration to produce the desired output.
