MANGOES’ QUALITY DETECTION MODEL

USING IMAGE PROCESSING

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Introduction

 5th most consumed fruit in the world

 Average of 10% exports of mango

 Source of livelihood

2
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Statement of the problem

 Insect bites affect the quality of

mangoes. The process of detecting
defect and grading of mangoes relies
on its physical characteristics.

3
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Objective
This study aims to developed an image processing model
that would be able to detect insect bites.

 Can the LBP and SVM be able to detect if the mango

fruit has an insect bite?

 Can the SVM classify the mango fruit into different sizes
and quality?

 What is the percentage accuracy of the passing rate

using LBP and SVM?

4
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Significance of the Study

 Mango Farm Owners

 National Plant Quarantine Services Division

 Philippine’s Mango Global Value chain

5
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Scope and Limitation

 Defect such as insect bites; dark-brown to purplish black

 Unripe mangoes

 ‘Carabao’

 Infestation
