Nonverbal Pattern
1. Cultural differences in nonverbal
communication
As we know that, nonverbal communication is the way we give a sign to someone
or a symbol when want to convey something to others. In everyday life,
we unknowingly have used nonverbal communication because others see from our
body language. But there are many cultural differences in nonverbal
communication in some countries. For example from body movement or facial
expression. So nonverbal communication is only effective in the interaction
between community members who have the same meaning to the movements.
2. Gestures

The gesture is a way or nonverbal communication through body movement with

the intention or aims to convey something eg nodding head in Indonesia means
agreeing on something. But unlike the state of India which means the nod as a
symbol or sign does not "agree". There's also in Germany that put the thumb in
the ear and the little finger near the lips with a signal that he will call and usually in
Germany they shake hands by tapping the shoulders as a sign they are happy to
meet you.
3. Facial expressions

Facial expressions are a form of nonverbal communication through someone's

emotional eg if happy in Indonesia often laugh freely. But there are also some
countries that express a happy expression by crying. Germany is also very
different if in Indonesia smile to other people or known that worship but in
German very stingy will smile because it shows a person's friendliness but not
mean arrogant.
4. Eye contact
Eye contact is a form of nonverbal communication that conveys messages or
signs through the eyes. For example in Indonesia, they often blink when giving
a condition to want to seduce women. But unlike in Germany, speaking with
eye contact is an impolite behavior but if you want to see someone's honesty
they believe through their eyes.
5. Space
Space is a nonverbal communication commonly used by humans in conveying a
message or a sign to someone for example in Turki is prohibited to speak
disabling young women and other examples of Arab Muslim countries who
whwn wanting to shake hands not bokeh women in touch with men but beds
with European culture that is not keeping a distance for example kissing on the
cheek when met as a sign of warmth
