EARLY LIFE
■ He was born at Malolos, Bulacan
■ He was a classmate of Fernando Amorsolo at UP
School of Fine Arts
■ Instead of basing the statue (Bonifacio Monument)
on printed materials, he interviewed people who
participated in the Philippine Revolution.
■ Bonifacio's figure was based on the bone structure
of Espiridiona Bonifacio, the Supremo's surviving
sister.

Philippine Independent Church
■ Known for inciting patriotic rebellion among
the Filipino clergy.
■ A political activist who became acquainted
with Isabelo delos Reyes, who would start an
Independent Christian Filipino Church
named after Aglipay in 1902.

Father of Modern Philippine Sculpture
(January 26, 1980 – February 16, 2018)
■ Born in Tagbilaran, Bohol
■ He was the youngest recipient of the National Artist of
the Philippines for visual arts by former President
Ferdinand Marcos at the age of 46.
■ His skill as a sculptor spans materials as varied as
wood, bronze, coral, and stone.
■ When he was a schoolboy, he first noticed the
sculptural quality of clay and began to mold it into a
shape of carabao or water buffalo common in the
Philippines.
