What is Simile?
Simile
A figure of speech involving the
comparison of one thing with
another thing of a different
kind, used to make a
description more emphatic or
vivid.
Simile comes from the Latin
word similis
Similes and metaphors are often
confused with one another. The
main difference between a simile
and metaphor is that a simile uses
the words "like" or "as" to draw a
comparison and a metaphor
simply states the comparison
without using "like" or "as". An

• He is as cold as ice.
• My love for you is as deep as
the ocean.
• This relationship is as tough as
iron.

make a comparison.
