EKB 4233 MECHANICAL

DESIGN OF PROCESS
EQUIPMENT
Academic Session: April 2018 – Aug 2018
Credit Hours: 3
Contact Hour: 4
• This course provide the foundation to the
mechanical properties of materials and the principle
involved in the design of load carrying devices and
structure. This knowledge is useful to design
mechanical system and components with enough
design margin and safety based on the material
properties such as designing a pressure vessel

• This course introduces the structure of solids, i.e.

metals (ferrous alloys and non-ferrous alloy),
ceramics and polymer, mechanical properties of
materials which include theories of failure and the
mechanical design of pressure vessel, supports and
flanges
Course Learning Outcomes:
1. Perform engineering calculations related to the mechanical
properties of materials such as forces, stresses and strains
and their interrelations in various mechanical structure in
different orientations and conditions
2. Identify the structure of various type of engineering
materials, explain the methods to determine their
properties
3. Apply the knowledge of materials in material selection for
construction of process equipment
4. Design process equipment such as pressure vessel, their
support and flanges, according to the standard
