My Travels
I will admit, I have not been a world
traveler. I did not study abroad. My family and I
have always been tight knit, so as a result, I have
always lived in Michigan. I haven’t even left the
United States!
Now as I become older I would love to
travel more and explore the world around me.
With the power of technology in this digital age,
I as an educator, can still learn and educate
today’s youth about the globalization of the
world, without even using a passport ever in my
life. With the sources we have read for cycle
two, pilgrimaging and experiencing the life
beyond home can be a great tool for education
as well.
My experiences, more so near, than far,
have shaped who I have become as a person
and an educator.
Family
My family taught me about life and
handling adversity and celebrating my
achievements. I take those lessons and try to
use our school’s curriculum to teach my
students those life lessons to make sure my
students leave my classroom as better people,
not only for themselves but for society.
Experiencing and connecting with my
family has created moments in my life I will My dad Craig and I
never forget. I use these moments to remember
that love is the driving force in life and should
be celebrated. My students view me, their
teacher, as someone who cares and wants them
to continue to learn every day in this journey we
call life.
As you can tell from the pictures my family
and I love our alma mater.

Connecting to my
Teaching
To me a pilgrimage through life is all about
learning and growing as a person.
Paulo Coelho spoke about life, experiences,
and being joyous in life. My teaching reflects those
ideas. I want my student’s to live a happy and
joyous life, through experiences, rather than
physical items. Love and happiness can be the
greatest educational experience.
I love the movie “Pursuit of Happyness”. It
made me cry seeing the main character achieve his
goal after all the trials and tribulations. The end
scene makes me think of life and experiences that
help strengthen who we are and who I am. We fall,
we get back up. We dream big.
I teach my students to dream big and
experience life. Understanding the globe as a whole
and how other people experience it will create an
educational experience that will benefit the
student as they grow older and wiser in their lives.
Achieving my dreams
and helping others
achieve theirs.
I have faced countless moments in my life
where adversity has taken a stronghold on me.
Without those moments I wouldn’t be where I
am today as a 4th grade teacher. I think about
those experiences everyday and use them to
educate my students.
I am lucky to have this same class next year
as I am moving to 5th grade with them. They all
have their own journey in life. It’s my job to
guide them and help them explore the world
around them so they can achieve their dreams.
Using our school’s curriculum, technology, and
my experiences, the world to them can feel like
a place where you can go wherever you want
and achieve whatever you want.
I want my students to be happy in life and
see the world in an emotional, spiritual, social,
and physical way as to understand the true
meaning of actually being happy with one’s self.
Global Education
This image shows the world with
examples of educational tools we teach our
children. As an elementary teacher I use
these words almost daily. I try to teach these
words to them so my students can become
strong minded people. Every human on Earth
can experience what I as an educator teach.
This image shows that. Thinking on a global
scale, you have to see that the role of an
educator is more about growing a person
through experiences, rather than teaching
them of what’s in a text book.
My lack of travelling across the globe
hasn’t stopped me from being a global
educator. My dream continues…
