–Guidelines

Summer Internship Prtoject Training
The Summer Internship Project Training is an integral
part of the PGDM programme and aims at achieving the
following objectives:
– Application of knowledge and techniques learnt in the first year
to real business problems and to test out and enrich one’s
understanding, knowledge and skills.
– Gives an insight into the working of the real organizations.
– Gaining deeper understanding in specific functional areas.
– Appreciating the linkages among different functions and
developing a realistic managerial perspective about
organizations in their totality.
– Helps in exploring career opportunities in their areas of interest.

Do’s and Don’ts in the Organization
Do’s-
– Punctuality (timeliness),
– Maintaining healthy and cordial relationship with
the people in organization.
– Understanding the work culture.
– Obeying direct instructions form the Internal and
External ( Company) Guides
– Showing a sense of belonging with the
organization.
– Maintaining proper Line and Staff Relationship
with the seniors and subordinates (If Any).

Do’s and Don’ts in the Organization
• Don’ts
– Do not take the training lightly and casually.
– Do not give an impression that you are doing the training just
for the sake of it. Put your heart and soul.
– Do not involve in internal politics.
– Do not reveal you weaknesses.
– Do not waste your time.
– Do not copy any material. Be original.
– Do not go for leave unless it is indispensable.
– Do not ask for favors.

REPORT

• The prescribed Summer Internship period is eight to ten


weeks from 1st week of April to mid-June of every year
which depends of the company and nature of works .
• During the internship/training, a student is expected to
learn about the organization and analyze and suggest
solutions to a live problem.
• The student should ensure that the data and other
information used in the study report is obtained with the
permission of the institution/company concerned. The
students should also behave ethically and honestly with
the organization.

• The student, on arrival to his place of SIP, should: Inform the faculty
guide (copy to PGDM Office ) of his Company and Supervisor’s
name, telephone and email etc.
• Construct a research problem (in consultation with his Company
supervisor) within 10 days so that there is sufficient time to gather
data and understand the problem. Such Research Problem must be
shared with the faculty supervisor along with a Synopsis (maximum
two pages standard MS-word Format. Broad areas to cover in
synopsis- Title, Introduction, need and relevance, primary and
secondary objectives of the study, expected outcome and plan of
action) as per the timeline.
• He/She should send an interim report to his faculty supervisor at the
end of each 2 weeks and it should be continued till finishing of the
project. The interim report would contain the progress made by the
student and it must follow the structure laid out in subsequent pages.

• The report (based on training and the problem/project studied) prepared
by the student will be known as Summer Internship Project Report. The
report should ordinarily be based on primary data. It should reflect in
depth study of micro problem, ordinarily assigned by the organization
where student undergoes training. Relevant tables and bibliography
should support it.
• The report will have two certificates. One by the Faculty
Supervisor/Guide of the School and the other by the Reporting Officer of
the organization where the student has undergone training. These two
certificates should be attached in the beginning of the report.
• The evaluation will have two parts aggregating 100 marks as detailed
below: Faculty supervisor – 40 marks; Presentation (15-20 minutes) – 60
marks.
• It is mandatory that the student will make presentation in the presence of
faculty members and students. The student is expected to answer to the
queries and questions raised in such interaction/presentation 7
Plagiarism Checking
If any material in the report is picked up from a
source and the source name is not referenced in
the Reference/ Bibliography section then it will
be treated as a case of plagiarism and thereafter
the report should be treated as cancelled.

 As a part of training, the students are required to submit a
Project Report and give a presentation to the organization, if
necessary. Also, they may be required to submit a project report to
the organization.

 The Report, Presentation on project report and viva on Project


Report are the basis for evaluation of the Project Work at the
School level.

 The project report should show that the student is capable of


scientific analysis of a problem and can approach the solution for
the same in a systematic manner.

 Wherever a questionnaire has been used during the summer


training, a sample copy of the questionnaire should be attached in
the Appendix of the report. Students are advised to maintain a
diary and record of daily events.

Prescribed Cover Page and Guidelines
• The cover page must be hard bound in Navy Blue Colour
with Gold Embossing.
• The size of the report would depend on the project
undertaken. However it must be not less than 50 typed
pages (1.5 space) on A4 size paper.
• All the students are required to use the uniform font and
format (except in heading and subheadings) through out
the text of the report. For example, if anybody uses “Times
New Roman” of font size 12 in the text, then he/she will be
using the same through out the report.
• The project report must accompany a certificate
authenticating the originality of the work done in the
prescribed format, as indicated below.

Guidelines for Summer Training
• Each student will make three copies of project report in the
recommended format. One copy is to be submitted to the PGDM Office
individually. The students will keep one copy of the project for their
further reference in future and one copy to the organization where they
have done their summer training (if required).
• Each student is required to make a copy of project in CD and submit
along with his/her project report.
• All the students are required to follow the following instruction.
– There should not be any deviation from requirement of reproducing
the cover page of the report from the format prescribed below.
– Students should prepare an outline – “framework on which long
written works are constructed.”
– Preparation of the rough draft.
– Rewriting and Polishing the rough draft.
– Bibliography

III. Literature Reviews
• A literature review discusses published information in a
particular subject area, and sometimes information in a
particular subject area within a certain time period.

• Literature reviews provide with a handy guide to a particular


topic. If one has limited time to conduct research, literature
reviews can give an overview or act as a stepping stone. For
professionals, they are useful reports that keep them up to
date with what is current in the field. For scholars, the depth
and breadth of the literature review emphasizes the
credibility of the writer in his or her field. Literature reviews
also provide a solid background for a research paper’s
investigation.

Quotation
It should be placed in quotation marks and double spaced, forming an
immediate part of the text, but if a quotation is of a considerable length

and indented at least half an inch to the right of the normal text margin.

Footnotes
Identification of materials used in quotations in the report and the notice
of material not necessary to the body of research text but still of
supplemental value.

Placed at the bottom of the page on which the reference or the


quotation which they identify or supplement ends.

They should be numbered consecutively usually beginning with No. 1


in each chapter

Foot notes are typed in single space though they are divided from one
another by double space.

All the students are required to follow the above stated guidelines and
are required to write the project report in their own language. Attaching
download information/materials in the content & annexure is strictly
prohibited.
