Nick:
• I incorporated several symbols from The Great Gatsby in a humorous way for this
project. For example, for chapter eight’s meme I included Dr. T. J. Eckleburg. His
painted eyes watch over everything in the Valley of Ashes, which means that they
even witness Myrtle’s death. The doctor’s eyes are meant to represent God, who
sees everything. Another example of a symbol included in these memes is the
green light described under the image for chapter four. The fact that Gatsby would
stare at the light at the end of Daisy’s dock was extremely creepy and would
definitely shock anyone who learned why he would stare at this light.
• I also incorporated themes from The Great Gatsby in this project. For example, for
chapters two and three I created memes that helped display the theme of
materialism in The Great Gatsby. Both memes also help show the self-
centeredness and selfishness displayed by every single character in The Great
Gatsby.
