RASPUTIN AND

THE ROMANOVS
GRIGORI RASPUTIN

• Born in Siberia to a peasant family.

• After a near death experience he claimed to have a
vision of Mary so he decided to lead a holy life and he
ended up spending three months in a monastery.
• When he arrived in St. Petersburg many believed he
had mystical healing powers at the time.
• He was appointed by the Tsar's wife, Alexandra, whose
son was suffering from haemophilia.
• When he repeatedly ‘healed’ Alexandra’s son he
became trusted by the Romanovs.
RASPUTIN

• When Tsar Nicholas went to away to lead the troops

during WW1, the Russian economy plummeted which
some thought was because of Rasputin’s supposed heavy
involvement with Alexandra.

• Rasputin encouraged the Tsar to leave for the war and

quickly gave priests positions in the government.
THE LEGEND OF
RASPUTIN
• Most of what is believed about Rasputin is legend including his
alleged drinking habits and his fondness for prostitutes. It is said to
be propaganda.
• One of the most interesting things about Rasputin is his death.
• It is said that relatives of the Tsar decided that he had too much
control over the Tsar and Tsarina. They invited him to their home
along with other nobles where they had a trap awaiting him.
• They laced cakes and wine with cyanide and waited until he had
enough to ‘kill 5 men’. But shockingly it didn’t effect him at all.
• At this point they decided to shoot him in the chest but again he
wasn’t fatally injured and he ran away from the house only to be
chased and shot another four times.
R A S P U T I N D E AT H
• To ensure he was dead, he was
beaten, wrapped up and thrown
into an ice cold river. Again this
didn’t get rid of him for long as
he managed to punch his way
own of the thick ice and swim
to shore only to die of
Hypothermia!

• New investigations have shown

that Rasputin didn’t have any
cyanide in his system when he
died and that he only had one
bullet hole in his forehead which
showed that he had been
executed by a professional.
• The stories told by his alleged
murderers constantly changed
Prince Yzupov and didn’t add up, neither did
Rasputin’s miraculous refusal to
die.
• When the bullet was examined that entered his
forehead it turned out to be a bullet that was only used
by British soldiers.
• Britain was an ally of Russia during WW1 so when it
was rumoured that Rasputin was encouraging the Tsar
to leave the war, the PM at the time ordered his
execution.
• No evidence of the mission has been found in the
Secret Services ,but the British spy that is thought to
WHAT have executed Rasputin ,called Oswald Rayner, was
friends with the alleged murderers and destroyed all
ACTUALLY documents relating to his mission.

HAPPENED?
• The following telegram was sent from Oswald’s
assistants:
• “Our objective as clearly been achieved. Reaction
OSWALD’S to our demise of Dark Forces has been well
TELEGRAM received by all, although a few awkward questions
have already been asked about wider involvement.
Rayner is attending to loose ends”.
RASPUTIN’S PREDICTION

• Rasputin wrote to the Tsar saying that if one of his men murdered him that all the Tsars family
would be killed by their own people.
• Just weeks later, Prince Yuzupov allegedly tried to murder Rasputin.

• Only one year later, Nicholas abdicated the throne due to unhappiness among his people and
whispers of a revolution became a reality in 1918.

• The ex- Tsar, ex- Tsarina, their five children and four servants were murdered by their former
subjects just as Rasputin had said. They were executed by Bolshevik supporters.
PRINCESS
ANASTASIA
• The remains of the family were found two years later in a
forest and were identified using fingerprints and DNA
testing. But the remains of Alexei and one of the daughters
were unaccounted for.
• This fuelled rumours that Princess Anastasia was still alive
and had managed to escape the execution. Over 100
women claimed to be Princess Anastasia once they caught
winf of the fact that she might be alive.
• Princess Anastasia’s grandmother was presented many of
the women to see if they were actually her granddaughter
but she was never found.
• Many films have been inspired by the story of her life.
