ABOUT THE PROJECT
This project is conduct to have the knowledge of various techniques,
methodologies and materials used in the construction of "FLYOVER
BRIDGE AT SEMARIYA CHOWK SATNA".

DESCRIPTION: A study on how a flyover is constructed with

clear presentation.
WHAT IS FLYOVER ??
A Flyover is a bridge, road, railway or similar structure that crosses over another road and
railway.

HISTORY:
• In INDIA the first flyover was constructed in
MUMBAI on 14th April 1965.
• It was 48 ft.(15m).
• It segregates the North-South and East-
West traffic at the junction.
Reason Behind Going For a Flyover

As the traffic on the road goes on increasing and we don't have
any space to regulate traffic then the only option left will be go
to provide a three-way junction that is done through flyover
construction.
DIFFERENT STAGES OF PROJECT

1.Survey and Analysis

Each and every civil engineering project starts with survey .Here in this
project detail survey of the site is done by Total Station and layout is
drawn is drawn in AutoCAD .It should be noted that surveying not only
plays an important role in design of project but also in the execution.

2.Traffic survey and Analysis

The main purpose of traffic survey are; traffic monitoring ,control and
management. The purpose of carrying out traffic volume count are
designing, improving traffic system, planning and management etc. In
this project flyover is designed to meets the requirement of traffic for next
30 years.

GOETECHNICAL SURVEY
It is very necessary to carry out through soil investigation
of the site as the whole load of the structure is ultimately
taken by soil through foundation. Feasibility, design and
safety of the structure all depend upon load bearing
capacity of the soil strata.

For this purpose bore holes were drilled in the

ground to get information about the sub –soil strata. Boring
was done at an interval of 20m along the alignment and
depth of exploration was 20m. Samples were taken from
the bore hole and tested in the laboratory and engineering
properties of soil was investigated.

From these tests & investigations, it was concluded that

the Soil Bearing Capacity of the site was 270 N/MM².
BASIC BRIDGE COMPONENTS

BRIDGE COMPONENT DIVIDED INTO TWO PORTIONS:

• SUPER STRUCTURE :This portion

receives the live load directly.
 Girders
 Span
• SUB STRUCTURE :This portion support
entire structure and live loads.
 Pile
 Pile Cap
 Piers
 Abutments

PILE FOUNDATION

Since the bridge has to carry a big live load and its
dead weight is also very large .So we cannot go for a
simple foundation but pile foundation .Pile foundation
is a type of deep foundation .It is used where the good
soil is at higher depth(10-15 m) or low bearing
capacity of soil .Pile is used for heavy structure .In this
foundation the load coming from the super structure to
the pile cap and equally distributed in no. Of piles and
pile transfers this load into the soil.
Process of pile foundation
PILES
PILE CAP

• A thick concrete
mat that rests on
piles collectively to
provide a suitable
stable foundation is
pile cap.
• This pile cap
distributes the load
to piles uniformly.
• It is 1.8m thick and
5.2m wide.
PIER
• A Pier is a
reinforced ,raised
structure in the
form of pillars
typically supported
by pile cap .It
transfers the loads
from deck to pile
cap.
• In this flyover
hammerhead pier
is constructed.
ABUTMENTS

Abutment refers to the

sub structure at the ends
of a bridge span .It
supports;
Super structure load
Live load
Lateral earth pressure
GIRDERS & SPAN

• Bridge deck beams are

known as girders .It carry
dynamic loading.
• A bridge deck or span is
the roadway surface of
a bridge, and is one
structural element of the
superstructure of a bridge
.The deck may be
constructed of concrete,
steel, open grating, or
wood .It provides way to
move vehicles over it.
Bridge deck or Span
REINFORCED EARTH WALL

• The Reinforced earth

wall is made up of
facia panels .These
panels are arranged
in the same way as of
brick's bonds.
• This Reinforced Earth
Wall provides 25%
more safety to the
superstructure.
BEARINGS AND CRASH BARRIER
 BEARING:-It allows  CRASH BARRIER:-The
unrestrained rotation & barrier which checks vehicles
displacement of superstructure from jumping outside from
,thus avoiding large forces to be
transferred to substructure and the flyover is called crash
foundation .It also act as seismic barrier .The width of crash
protectors. barrier is 0.45m.
