INTRODUCCIÓN
The capital and operating costs of an open pit mine are significantly
influenced by the cost of material haulage. Costs of the truck haulage
can be as much as a half of the total mining costs, with the major
expenditures attributed to fuel, lubrication, tires and maintenance.
There is a need to examine alternative transport systems. The best
solution seems to be conveyor transport, as it is efficient and
economical in power consumption. A comparison of operating costs for
these two systems favours the conveyor transport in most cases. The
evaluation of an all truck transport system versus a conveyor transport
system is a very complex problem. To perform this task, a detailed cost
analysis is required, over the whole period of a mine life.

ADVANTAGES AND DISAVANTAGES
OF THE IPCC SYSTEM
• ADVANTAGES
1. Operating costs per ton / km are low.
2. Electric energy is used instead of diesel fuel, resulting in lower CO2
emissions.
3. The number of operators is reduced
4. Safety in operation is greater than truck system.
8
ADVANTAGES AND DISAVANTAGES
OF THE IPCC SYSTEM
• DISADVANTAGES
1. The location of the transport system must follow the progress of
the mine.
2. Low flexibility.
3. A period of time is needed for the relocation.
4. The system mainly depends on the crusher.

Characteristics of the material to be transported
12
Operational characteristics of the pit
Ramps
The gradients of the ramps should be in the range of 8% - 12%.
• On two-way tracks, the width of the ramps should not be less
than 3 times the width of the largest equipment in the mine.
• On one-way tracks, the width of the ramps should not be less
than 2 times the width of the largest equipment in the mine.
Safety berms
All elevated road must be provided with berms, to avoid the
fall of vehicles that circulate by these to lower levels in case of
loss or slip of the vehicle.

CONCLUSIONS
• According to the social assessment carried out, the IPCC system was
identified as the one that offers the least impact in the community.
• According to the technical-economic evaluation, it was determined that
the maximum number of trucks in the conventional system is 37 trucks in
the IPCC system, which only requires 21 trucks at most, having a reduction
of 43% in number of trucks.
• According to the environmental assessment IPCC System generates lower
environmental impact due to the reduction of CO2 gas emission, concluding
that the IPCC system offers the best characteristics for sustainable mining.

• According to the economic evaluation carried out for both haulage and transportation systems, it
was obtained that the NPV for the conventional truck system is US $ 1,721,520,034.95 and for the
IPCC system it is US $ 2,043,373,752.97, concluding that the IPCC system generates 19% more
profitability.
