1.1 Background
Over the years, adhesive application has shown to be on the rise as compared to conventional
assembly techniques, from manufacturing to aerospace [1,2]. Typically, the process of applying
adhesives to a non-woven fabric involves controlling the adhesive applicator motor speed and
maintaining the melting temperature [3]. During this process, changes in pressure and temperature
both in the applicator and the adhesive receiving tank is inevitable.

This study aims to explore the pressure and temperature dynamics that impacts the adhesive
properties. In practice, the dosing parameter is manipulated in order to achieve the desired
production output and this has resulted in high chemical utilization and high rate of product rejects.
In addition, very few studies on the adhesive dynamics at the receiving tank and its correlation to the
desired output at the applicator end has been studied due to its complexity.
1.2 Problem statement
• High efficiency of adhesive application on their product is a main advertising criteria of their
merchandise.
• Right now, the efficiency of adhesive application is resolute by temperature of receiving tank.
However, there are few parameters such as speed of applicator motor and also melting
temperature at earlier stage need to be examine on their relationship with efficiency of adhesive.
• Low efficiency of adhesive application on their merchandise will increase a customer complaint
which at the end, will jeopardizes their image and earning potential.
1.3 Objectives
Followings are the objectives proposed for this study:
• To investigate the adhesive dynamics at the receiving tank and its correlation to the desired
output at the applicator end.
• To optimize the production of diapers.
1.4 Scope of project
• The general intent of this study in to investigate the relationship between efficiency of adhesive
application to the speed of applicator motor and adhesive melting temperature.
• This study will mainly identify and assess two (2) controllable parameter that affect the efficiency
of adhesive application. Also, this study yearn to identify the optimal condition of the parameter
in order achieve improvement on efficiency of adhesive application.
• This study will be conducted with limited amount of financial resources and time framework.
1.5 significance of study
The importance of this study could not be understated. The impact of process optimization could
leads to continuous decrease in reject products volume. In addition, disposal of rejected products
are costly and environmentally harmful. By carrying out this study, process optimization could be
carried in order to reduce material wastage, energy saving and effective manufacturing of the
diapers. The research also aims to close the gap of unexplored studies on the adhesive dynamics at
the receiving tank and its correlation to the desired output at the applicator end.
