PURPOSE OF RESEARCH
• National identities can be formed by historical events.
• The historical events could be changed by people with different perspectives
to a subject.
• Importance of education system.
• "History by apprising them of the past will enable them to judge of the
future; it will avail them of the experience of other times and other nations;
it will qualify them as judges of the actions and designs of men; it will enable
them to know ambition under every disguise it may assume; and knowing it,
to defeat its views." (Cartwright, 1960)
Significance of History Lessons
• History lessons are very important since history of a nation is
a factor that unites people through common past.

• Schama focuses directly on the situation in the US but it is

relevant to observe these as general importance of the history
lessons.

• As historian and government advisor Simon Schama mentions,

teaching history in a time like this is very important in relation
to unification of a society.(Schama, 2010)
Teaching third World history

• Confusing results on pupils,

according to Eddington. (1982)

Is it really empty?
• For example, as Killingray stated, Africa is shown to be an empty continent waiting for
the invasion of the Westerns. (Edgington, 1982)
