INTRODUCTION

• Gehlot tractors pvt limited is situated in gangapur city.

• Tractors parts are repairs here.
• Vechiles services is done here.
TECHNOLOGY
• Turbocharger is a turbine driven air compressor and a
forced induction device powered by exhaust gases from
the internal combustion engine.
• Here, air is compressed twice once durin induction into
the engine and secondly during compression stroke of the
engine.

Working principle of a turbocharger

• A turbocharger is a small radial fan pump driven by the

energy of the exhaust gases of an engine.
• A turbocharger consists of a turbine and a compressor on
a shared shaft.
• The turbine converts exhaust to rotational force, which is
in turn used to drive the compressor.
• The compressor draws in ambient air and pumps it in to
the intake manifold at increased pressure, resulting in a
greater mass of air entering the cylinders on each intake
stroke.
Need of turbocharger and super charger

• For ground installations, it is used to produce a gain in the

power out put of the engine.
• For aircraft installations, in addition to produce a gain in
the power out put at sea-level, it also enables the engine to
maintain a higher power out put as altitude is increased.

Turbocharger Design and Operation
 A turbocharger consists of two chambers connected by
a center housing.
 The two chambers contain a turbine wheel and a
compressor wheel connected by a shaft.
BOOST CONTROL
A turbocharger uses exhaust gases to increase boost, which
causes the engine to make more exhaust gases, which in
turn increases the boost from the turbocharger.
To prevent over boost and severe engine damage, most
turbocharger systems use a waste gate.
A waste gate is a valve similar to a door that can open and
close.
The waste gate is a bypass valve at the exhaust inlet to the
turbine.
It allows all of the exhaust into the turbine, or it can

Advantages of turbocharger
• The more increase the pressure of the intake air above the local atmospheric
pressure (boost), the more power the engine produces. Automotive
superchargers for street use typically produce a maximum boost pressure
between 0.33 to 1.0 bar , providing a proportionate increase in power.

• Engines burn air and fuel at an ideal (stoichiometric) ratio of about 14.7:1,
which means that if you burn more air, you must also burn more fuel.

• This is particularly useful at high altitudes: thinner air has less oxygen,
reducing power by around 3% per 1,000 feet above sea level, but a
supercharger can compensate for that loss, pressurizing the intake charge to
something close to sea level pressure.
Disadvantages of turbocharger
• Cost and complexity
• Detonation
• Parasitic losses
• Space
• Turbo lag
CONCLUSION

• The experience during the training period was good. I was able
to learn the various machines and assembly processes.
• At the same time, I could gain my knowledge regarding the
work culture and the organization of the company.
• I found this training program to be fruitfully for me and this
experience would help me a lot in my future aspects.
