SO
What’s new in 2018.1?

Jia (Roger) Luo, Software Consultant Date: 16-01-2018

NEW DESWIK.SO

 New, reimagined user interface

 Scenario generation and management

 Block model validation

 Bulk editing

 Orientated optimization region finder

 Improved performance

 Using the latest features of the industry-leading AMS Stope Shape Optimizer including increased number of
points per section in the optimization polylines.
MAJOR FEATURES IN THE NEW SO ENGINE

 More detailed stope shape design with the number of points on a sectional outline increased from 4 to 6 or 8
points

 Improved run-time performance (x3-5) with large models

 Stope width and dip angles supplied as True or Apparent

 All combinations of Near/Far and Hangingwall/Footwall angles

 Dilution parameters supplied as model fields

 Many additional parameters and controls to extend V2 design functionality.

6-8 POINT OUTLINES

 Stope geometry is no longer restricted to 4 point outlines on section

 Either 4, 6 or 8 point outlines are available

 The position of the additional points is defined relative to the vertical axis of the original 4 points

 The position is defined by a vertical range

 Seed shape remains effectively a 4 point shape.

6-8 POINT OUTLINES - EXAMPLES
NARROW ORE

 A way to slightly penalize waste that falls between the ore and the preferred
wall position

 Suitable for narrow vein block models with below ore threshold material.
DILUTION AS A PARAMETER OR MODEL FIELD

 Dilution width can now be included as a model

field to allow dilution to have a spatial
dependence (hanging/footwall or near/far
convention)

 Pre-code block model dilution fields are easier

and more flexible than having different
frameworks for each dilution zone.
HORIZONTAL SLICE TROUGH

 A trough undercut can now be added to a

horizontal stope

 By specifying a minimum and maximum

depth beneath the annealed stope shape
floor and an increment interval to test, the
best value/metal trough undercut position
can be determined.
PRISM CROWN ANNEALING

 In the prism method, stope crown can be

annealed to reflect the local orebody geometry

 The approach assumes that the crown anneal

will only improve the head grade, but not convert
a sub-economic stope to an economic one.
LEVEL STRING ATTRIBUTES

 A level attribute can be supplied with a gradient

control string to automatically assign the level
attribute to the stopes produced by the stope
optimizer.
IRREGULAR FRAMEWORK INTERVAL ON TWO AXIS

 V3 allows variable interval to be supplied in two

directions, whereas in v2 a variable interval could only
be supplied in one direction.
CUSTOMIZABLE SUB STOPES

 In V3, a closed string can be supplied to

define a non-rectangular shape

 The polyline vertex list can be generated

from one of the tunnel section settings in
the document.
GRADIENT ALONG STRIKE WITH CONTROL POLYLINES

 A fixed gradient change from the horizontal (in degrees) can be specified for the far and near side for vertical
scenarios

 Can be used in cases where it is appropriate to have a gradient in the transverse direction.
QUADRILATERAL POLYLINES

 Multiple polylines can be supplied to

customize the shape and position of each
quad

 Each polyline has to have 4 points.

OUTPUT OF POLYLINES AND WIREFRAME FILES FOR TUBE GEOMETRY

 V3 can output tube polylines and wireframe

with ore conversion attribute to report the
conversion factor on a tube (quad) by tube
basis for the orebody.
NEW FEATURES IN THE USER INTERFACE

 Brand new UI

 Improved scenario management

 Block model validation

 Orientated framework alignment

 Scenario generator

 Bulk editor

 Improved multithreading performance.

BRAND NEW UI

ORIENTATED FRAMEWORK ALIGNMENT

 Automatically fits the orientated framework to the grade shell

 Supports 3 axis rotation

 Eliminate manual framework positioning and coordinate

system rotation.
SCENARIO GENERATOR

 Generate a large number of scenarios by varying one or more

settings from a base scenario

 Spreadsheet-style user interface allows rapid renaming and

settings modification.
SCENARIO GENERATOR - EXAMPLE

 Base case: NSR 10

 Goal: Generate scenarios from $10 NSR to

$200 NSR with a $10 step

 Name each scenario based on the cutoff value.

BULK EDITOR

 Edit multiple settings from different scenarios

in an Excel-style editor

 Support formulas and cell referencing.
