Definitions of Ibadah
Ibadah in language (etymology) means humbling and
submissive. While according to syara '(terminology), ibadah has
many definitions, but the meaning and meaning one. The
definitions include:

1. ibadah is obedient to God by carrying out His commands through


the oracles of His Apostles.
2. ibadah is humbling to Allah Azza wa Jalla, the highest level of
submission accompanied by the highest sense of mahabbah
(love).
3. ibadah is a title that embraces all the beloved and beloved of
Allah Azza wa Jalla, whether in the form of speech or deeds, the
zhahir and the inner. The third is the most complete definition.
‫ّللا ه َُو الرزاقُ ذو ْالقُوُِة‬
َُ ُ‫ون ِإن‬ ْ ‫ون َما أ ِريدُ ِم ْنهم ِ ِّمن ِ ِّر ْزقُ َو َُما أ ِريدُ أَن ي‬
ُِ ‫ط ِعم‬ ُِ ‫نس ِإّلُ ِل َي ْعبد‬ ِ ْ ‫َو َما َخلَ ْقتُ ْال ِجنُ َو‬
َُ ‫اْل‬
ُ‫ْال َمتِين‬

"And I did not create jinn and men but to worship to Me. I do not want a
rizqi from them and I do not want them to feed Me. Verily Allah is He
Who has the power of strength. "[Adz-Dzaariyaat: 56-58]
The Right Ubudiyyah Pillars
In fact the ibadah is based on three main pillars,
namely: hubb (love), khauf (fear), raja' (hope).
Love must be accompanied by a sense of
inferiority, while khauf must be accompanied by
the raja'. In every worship should gather these
elements.
We are doing ibadah because we love it, we feel
afraid of not doing it, then we are ibadah to
asked Allah for living on a peacefull life
The Requirement of
Acceptance of Ibadah
To be accepted, ibadah is required to be true, and it can not be
said to be true except in the presence of two conditions:

a. Ikhlas because Allah alone, free from big and small shirk.
b. Ittiba ', in accordance with the guidance of the Prophet
Muhammad sallallaahu' alaihi wa sallam.

The first condition is a consequence of the creed of laa ilaaha illallaah,


because he requires sincere ibadah only to Allah and far from shirk to Him.
While the second condition is the consequence of the shahadah
Muhammad Rasulullah, because he demands obligation to obey the
Messenger, following the shari'at and leave the bid'ah or ibadah that is
made-inventions.
Type of Ibadah
Implementation Aspect
• Ibadah Jasmaniyah Ruhiyah, ibadah that the implementation
requires physical activity and strength accompanied by a soul full
of sincerity and khusyu to Allah SWT.
• Ibadah Ruhaniyah Maliyah, ibadah that its implementation
related to wealth such as zakat.
• Ibadah Jasmaniyah Ruhaniyah Maliyah, ibadah that the
implementation besides requiring physical and mental strength,
also require material such as hajj.
Specific - General
• Specific :
Ibadah whose provisions have been established by the holy
Qur’an or Hadits texts such as shalat, fasting, pilgrimage. This
Ibadah does not accept additions.

• General :
All good deeds performed by human believers with the intention
of Ibadah and practiced just for Allah SWT.
In Terms of Personal and
Community
• Ibadah Fardhi, ibadah that can be done
individually such as shalat and fasting.
• Ijtima'I : Ibadah carried out in order to meet
social needs, such as zakat and hajj.
In Terms of Form and
Character
• Ibadah consisting of reinforcement such as dhikr, tahlil, shalawat,
etc.
• Ibadah of detailed words and deeds such as shalat, zakat, fasting
and hajj.
• Ibadah that does not mention its implementation, such as helping
others, jihad, establishing madrassas, mosques, etc.
• Ibadah that aborts rights, such as freeing someone from
responsibility to us, forgiving the mistakes that others make against
us, and so forth
The Greatest Virtue of Ibadah
• Ibadah is the ultimate cause for the pleasure of
Allah, to enter Paradise and to be saved from
the torments of Hell.
• Can relieve someone to do good and leave evil.
• Can train a person to make the disaster and
relieve the burden of the moment and give pain,
all that I received with a roomy chest and a calm
soul.
