INTRODUCTION
Since the introduction of the Internet in 1969, it has
evolved from the sole domain of the computer nerd and
the academic to a mainstream channel of communication
(Nehmzow 1997).
The Internet is a global linking of computers that allows
information transfer.
Internet is one of the most common and most important
tools of communication. Nowadays, computers and
internet have been emerged as an important part of our
lives. The Internet has become an integral aspect of life for
contemporary children. Due to the development and
spread of cheaper and more user-friendly computer
technology and software (e.g., portable computers,
Microsoft Word etc), the use of the Internet has increased
dramatically.
There are many benefits associated with Internet use,
such as access to needed information, worldwide access
to news and events, and interpersonal communication
through email. However, along with the phenomenal
growth of the Internet and its use, there has been a
growing concern worldwide regarding the risks associated
with Internet over-use (Buchholz, 2009).
Along with the fast developments in the computer and
communication technologies, place of the internet in
meeting all kinds of daily needs of people such as work,
shopping, payment, establishing communication,
education and entertainment has been increasing (Muslu
and Bolışık 2009).
While the developments at the technology and
communication make human life easier as a criterion of
development and modernization and positively affect the
communal development, on the other hand it
accompanies some problems and dangers resulted from
insensible use of the internet (Çam and Nur 2015).
STATEMENT OF THE
PURPOSE
What are the effects and benefits of adolescence internet
use?
Related to this main research question, the following areas
of interest will be explored:
How do they become an internet user?
How do these factors affect their life?
Does being influenced by the factors will result a positive
or negative outcome?
How did they adapt this factor?
What are the possible outcomes of being exposed in a
very young in using internet?
RESEARCH FRAMEWORK
Impact of Home Computers (Subrahmanyam, et. al., 2010)
Children’s daily use of computers is increasing both at
school and at home. Although children still spend more
time watching television than using computers, use of
home computers is growing rapidly, adding to their total
“screen time.” And although boys traditionally have used
home computers more than girls, mostly to play games,
girls are catching up as they use Internet communication
activities to send and receive e-mail, play with software
such as Barbie Fashion Designer, and care for computer-
simulatedvirtual pets. Thus, both boys and girls will in
creasingly face the issues identified in this article, but a
great deal is still unknown.

SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS
The following statements are the scope and
delimitations of this recent study.
This examination filled in the effects and benefits of
internet use to adolescence.
This disquisition is only limited for the adolesnces
who use internet.
The study is only limited to adolescence who use
internet on Saint Francis of Assisi College - Alabang.
This study was specifically for children ages 13-18
years old.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study constitutes the factors influencing children’s
internet use - their attitude, their behavior, their outlook in life, their
emotions, and their challenges that are connected to these factors.
Therefore, this study will be of great benefit to the following:
 To the Children who Use Internet in their Daily Basis. The main
significance of this study is the children who use Internet in their
daily basis. They will able to know the benefits which they can use
to their daily activities also the harm or the disadvantages of using it
that will lead to them due to the misuse of this.
 To the Parents. This study will help the parents how to guide
children properly on using internet, as the parents are the one who
is responsible on leading them to do what is right and helping their
child the limitations of using it though the parents too are
considered one of the factor that influence the children’s internet
use.
 To the Teachers. This study will help the teachers to know what
are the factors affecting children’s internet use and how they will
interpret to explain this to their students in time that they need
it.
 To the Students. This study will help students understand what
are factors influencing internet use and what are the possible
effects of these factors also to know what are the advantages and
disadvantages of using it.
 To the Guidance Counselors. This study will aid Guidance
Counselors in dealing with students or children who are mostly
affected by most of the negative outcome of using internet.
 To the Future Researchers. This study will benefit the future
researchers; they will be able to distinguish the different factors
that influence children’ internet use. They can take another idea
from this study also they can use this as another theory for the
future studies related to this disquisition.
Chapter 2
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND
STUDIES
INTERNET
The Internet was established in the early 1960s and
subsequently became amainstream communication
vehicle (Moschovitis, Polle, Schuyler, & Senft, 1999;
Schneider, et al., 2006).
The Internet is a massive, computer-linked network
system used globally to access and convey information,
either by personal or business computer users; it is also
used for communication, research, entertainment,
education and business transactions(Kraut, et al., 1998;
Schneider, et al., 2006).
ON FACTORS AFFECTING STUDENT’S
INTERNET USE
Suler (2000) suggests that addictive Internet users are
meeting personal needs while on the Internet, including a
sense of belonging; self actualization achievement; and
sexual images and dialogue.
Other research has documented that Internet addiction
users report that the Internet is a relaxing, exciting, and
enjoyable avenue for social exchange (Morahan-Martin &
Schumacher, 2000).
Matusitz and McCormick (2012) suggested that Internet
use may cause sedentarism, which refers to decreased
energy expenditure or, simply, physical inactivity.
Sedentarism, inturn, may increase obesity.
ON ADOLESCENTS
Anonymous (1998), stated that the life of a teenager
seems to change daily. Teens are more exposed to new
ideas, situations and to people, this helps to develop their
personalities and enthusiasm during adolescence. During
these days’ teens develop emotions mentally and
physically. Motivating Teenagers helps to characterize
outside forces or by fascinating /learning something with a
sense for accomplishments. Depressions in teenagers
occurs when something appeared beyond their normal
mood swings, this negative events shows that it will
greatly affect both families and friends to encounter
negatives which lower self-esteem which acts as a barrier
for depression.

METHODOLOGY
Research Design
 This study focuses at the effects and benefits of internet to
adolescence in SFAC Alabang. It aims to expand our knowledge in
this field of study. To know how students adapt in this effects and
benefits.

Respondents of the Study

 The respondents of this study are the Grade 8 to Grade 11 ages 13-
17 years old students of SFAC – Alabang, School Year 2017-2018.
 The total population of our respondents is 111 students which allow
us to give survey to all the students. This will give us better result
because all of the opinions of the students were taken. This will free
us from inaccurate data which is caused by random sampling. 13
years old students have 17 respondents, 14 years old students have
24 respondents, 15 years old students have 13 respondents, 16
years old students have 34 respondents, while 17 years old students
have 23 respondents which totals to 111 respondents
Research Instrument
 The research instrument used was a researcher-made questionnaire
to gather the needed data for study. This will give us an easier way
in getting the data we need from the students.

Data Gathering Procedure

 The researchers personally administered the research instrument to
the respondents. The researchers asked permission to the teacher
that is in-charge of the class to give the test. Before giving the
questionnaire the respondents explained what the questionnaire is
for. The respondents were given not more than 20 minutes to
answer the questionnaires. After all the respondents have answered
the questionnaires, the researchers started to tally and analyze the
data that have been collected.

Data Analysis
 The researchers analyze the date by using percentage. It is and easy
and effective way to analyze the data that is gathered using the
questionnaires.

PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND
INTERPRETATION OF DATA
Data Presentation and Analysis
To investigate the role of benefits of internet to
adolescences, we conducted a survey was distributed at
Saint Francis of Assisi college in junior and senior (Jr. and
Sr.). A total of 111 students took the survey. Of these
students, 17 were 13 yrs. Old, 24 were 14 yrs. Old, 13
were 15 yrs. Old, 34 were 16 yrs. Old and 23 were 17 yrs.
Old, with the total of 111 students. Thus, of those who
provided a valid response, 15.32% were 13 yrs. Old,
21.62% were 14 yrs. Old, 11.71% were 15 yrs. Old, 30.63%
were 16 yrs. old and 20.72% were 17 yrs. old. These
results can be found in Table 1.
