Reality vs Challenges
• India Produces around 30 lakhs graduates and 7 lakhs postgraduates every year.
• Commerce students have limited career options – CA, CS, ICWA as Professional Courses.
• Despite the capabilities and required skills most of them are unemployed or under waged.
• No focus on skill development and enhancement.
• Employed in non-core areas like operations, administration; HR etc .
• Once they get entrenched in jobs they are completely utilized as a multi-tasking person.
• Generalist (doing all work )at low salary working in all the departments.
• Most of the students fail to pass CA and other courses and land up in no man’s land.

What is International Financial Reporting Standards ?
What is International Financial Reporting Standards? ?

International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) is a set of accounting standards, developed by

the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) for the global standardization of
the preparation of public company financial statements.

Worldwide Adoption of IFRS

By April 2011 more than 150 countries are expected to adopt International Financial Reporting
Standards (IFRS) including countries like India, China, Brazil, and South Korea.

It is under practice that many nations developed their own local Generally Accepted Accounting
Principles (GAAP). As IFRS convergence will entail a change in the accounting process, industry
will need finance professionals updated on IFRS skills.
IN INDIA
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has announced that IFRS will be
mandatory in India for financial statements for the periods beginning on or after 1 April, 2011.
This will be done by revising existing accounting standards to make them compatible with
IFRS.
Reserve Bank of India has stated that financial statements of banks need to be IFRS-compliant
for periods beginning on or after 1 April, 2011s 14
