* Characteristic:
1. They may be produced when
sufficiently intense electrical or
chemical forces are applied to any
material
2. They all travel readily through
spaces at an equal velocity
3. They direction of travel is always
in a straight line

Wavelength : The distance between the peak of one wave and the peak
of either the preceding/ succeding wave.
Frequency : The number of wave oscillations or vibrations occuring in 1
second and is expressed in hertz (Hz)units.
Electromagnetic Radiation
Reflected

Transmitted

Absorbed
* Arndt-Schutz Principle
* No reactions or changes can occure in the body tissues if the amount
of energy absorbed is insufficient to stimulate the absorbing tissues
* Law of Grotthus-Draper
* If energy is not absorbed by the superficial tissues it will penetrate to
deeper tissues
* Cosine Law
* The smaller the angle between the propagating ray and the right
angle, the less radiation reflected and the greater absorbed.
* Inverse Square Law
* The intensity of the radiation striking s particular a surface varies
inversely with the square of the distance from the source
