Why Routers in Dimetra Systems ?
•The MSO Switch is Using LAN (802.3 Ethernet) as Transportation
means (Layer1).
•Multiple Protocol (LAN Based) through the MSO connections. (TCP ,
UDP on Layer4 & Unicast, Multicast etc… on higher layers).
•Need to Ease on heavy traffic on the LAN Lines ( Multiple VLAN’s)
•Need to connect multiple VLAN’s in between on selective basis.
•Need for Randevous Points to establish conversations.
•Packet & Short Data Support From/To EBTS Sites.

Gateway Routers
The gateway router is a Motorola
Network Router (MNR) S6000 with an ST6011 module in I/O slot 1

•supports multicast traffic, allowing the zone controller to send

control packets to multiple points in the zone.

•isolate multicast traffic from the various hosts they are servicing.

provide redundant connections for hosts with redundant interfaces

(zone controller) or load balancing devices.

FTR System Support 4

Kobi Goldenberg FTR
Routers in Dimetra Systems

Gateway Routers
•provide network isolation and routing of
traffic for the zone controller, consoles, MTIG,
, and Packet Data Gateway.

•provide a single access point or gateway to access the core and

exit routers.

Gateway routers provide support for the following:

• Zone Controller (control router functionality)

• Packet Data Gateway (data router functionality)
• Network Management

Gateway Routers

Each gateway router has two 100Base-TX connections (TLAN1 TLAN2)

Any traffic to and from the zone controllers or PDG is routed by one of the
gateway routers.

Gprs Gateway Support Node (GGSN)

•GGSN is the Access Point for Packet Data in both Tetra & Astro
Systems.
•GGSN was Implemented at 5.0 / 5.1 with CISCO but now with 3Com
router.
•Every MS Unit in Tetra must register in the PDR using the correct APN
(Access Point Network).
•Each APN (Usually not a must) has it’s own IPIP Tunnel.
•The IPIP Tunnel Is for CEN Communication. And it is stretched
between the GGSN <<>> Border Router (Sometimes via the PN router).
