 Correlative Conjunction
Correlative Conjunction (Kata sambung yang
berpasangan). It used to present two related
pieces of information. Both pieces of
information are being presented by the writer
as suprising or unexpected, with the second
one being even more suprising than the first.
The first piece of information, which we’ll call
[A], comes after not only, and the second
piece of information [B] comes after but also,
like this :
“ NOT ONLY [A].... BUT ALSO [B]”
 1. NOT ONLY ... BUT ALSO ....
 Not only ... But also ... (Bukan hanya ... Tetapi juga...)

Subject + verb + not only + noun + but also + noun

Subject + not only + verb + but also + verb

 For Example
 They need not only food but also air to live.
(Mereka membutuhkan tidak hanya
makanan tetapi juga udara untuk hidup)
 She not only plays the piano but also
composes music. (Dia tidak hanya
memainkan piano tetapi juga menciptakan
bentuk musiknya)
 Gilang not only kind but also handsome.
(Gilang tidak hanya baik tetapi juga tampan)
2. AS WELL AS
 Besides being used to express equally well
(as well), as well as can also be meaningful
in addition to = and (and/as well). (selain
digunakan untuk mengekpresikan equally well
(sama bagusnya), as well as juga dapat
bermakna in addition to = and (dan/dan juga).
To express in addition to, following a
pattern that followed:
 Singular subject, AS WELL AS subject2,
singular verb....
Plural subject, AS WELL AS subject2, plural
verb...
Subject + verb + .... + AS WELL subjects
Subject + verb + AS WELL AS + gerund...
Subject + infinitive + AS WELL AS +
infinitive/verb1...
Subject + verb + object1 + AS WELL AS +
object2...
 Examples of “AS WELL AS”
 John as well as his parents, is going to go to Puncak this
weekend.(John dan juga orang tuanya akan pergi ke puncak akhir
pekan ini).
 John’s parents as well as john are going to go to Puncak
this weekend.(Orang tua john dan juga john akan pergi ke
puncak akhir pekan ini).
 John is going to go to Puncak this weekend as well as his
parents. (John akan pergi ke puncak akhir pekan ini , begitu juga
orang tuanya).
 Amy studies all tense formulas as well as practicing them
everyday. (Amy mempelajari semua pola tensis dan juga
mempraktekannya setiap hari).
 You have to study all tense formulas as
well as (to) pratice them every day as amy
does. (Kamu harus mempelajari semua pola
tensis dan juga mempraktekannya setiap hari
seperti amy lakukan).
 At the party, i met ronny as well as Rini. (Di
pesta, aku bertemu dengan ronny dan rini).
 3. Both....and ....
 Both..and...(baik...dan...keduanya..)

S + Verb + Both + noun/adjective/adverb + and +

noun/adjective/adverb

For Example :
Hanny is both beautiful and clever
He works both quickly and neatly
Both cat and rabbit have very soft fur
