 Introduction

Feature Description:

Cell/URA_PCH states are UTRAN Connected mode states where UE is only RRC Connected(No RAB). The UE is
placed in this state incase of low activity. There is no data transfer for PS and incase of incoming paging, the
Network pages the UE on the URA level.

Trial Objectives :
•It reduces signaling load, especially in terms of PS RAB setup/release.
•Better handle of the paging load by reducing the paging area.
•Significant improvement on UE Battery consumption.
•The usage of additional states provides Better resources usage than only Cell_DCH and Cell_FACH
configurations.

Advantages vs Drawbacks with URA_PCH

 Improvement on the signaling load, less TMU load observed.  high

 Less latency on the upsize for PS sessions  high

 Improvement on paging load depending on the number of URA_id’s  Intermediate

 Expected improvement on Ue battery life (not measured)  high

 Increase on the PS Iu contexts kept in RNC

Advantages vs Drawbacks with Cell_PCH

 Signaling load will be a balance between more Cell-Update vs less RRC.  low, depends on network profile

 Less latency on the upsize for PS sessions high

 Higher improvement on paging load than with URA_PCH.  high

 Expected improvement on Ue battery life.  high

 Increase on the PS Iu contexts kept in RNC

Advantages vs Drawbacks with URA_PCHandCell_PCH

Decrease in RRC/RAB Attempts(PS/HS) by around 52% observed.

Summary

Advantages:
Improvement observed in the CPU load(TMU) observed with decrease in the number
of RRC/RAB Attempts.

Disadvantages:
Degradation observed in CS_CDR/PS_CDR.Also, increase in FACH load observed.
Ticket opened with the Support Team for this issue and awaiting their feedback.
