PIPE AND OPERATING

PARAMETER SELECTION
SCOPE OF WORK
• DETERMINE THE MINIMUIM PIPE SIZE
REQUIRED TO TRANSPORT A GAS OF
200 MMSCFD AND 400 MMSCFD VIA A
DISTANCE OF 30KM AND 70KM
RESPECTIVELY.
• ADVISE POSSIBLE INLET AND
LANDING PRESSURE.

2/14/2018 2
PROCEDURE
• A SENSITIVITY ANALYSIS WAS CARRIED OUT AT
VARIOUS PRESSURES FOR VARIOUS PIPE SIZES
USING SCHLUMBERGER PIPESIM SOFTWARE.

IDSL/NNPC.
RESULT FOR 200 MMSCFD
30KM PIPELINE
A Table for sensitivity analysis carried out
for various pipe sizes ranging from 8 to 16
inches is shown below (PDF also
attached).14” and 16” ID pipes with a
pressure drop of 22.99 and 10.54 Bar.
agreed with the API 14E standard for pipe
selection which states that gas line
velocities ≤ 18m/s.

2/14/2018 4
FLOWRATE=200MMSCFD
DISTANCE =30KM
14” and 16” will do just fine.
14” is the minimum size although it has potential for more pressure drop.

RESULT FOR 400 MMSCFD
70KM PIPELINE
A Table for sensitivity analysis carried out
for various pipe sizes ranging from 8 to 24
inches is shown below (PDF also
attached). 20”, 22’’ and 24” ID pipes
satisfied API 14E standard for pipe
selection which states that gas line
velocities ≤ 18m/s.

2/14/2018 6
FLOWRATE=400MMSCFD
DISTANCE =70KM
20”, 22 and 24” will do just fine
20” is the minimum size to be used although it means more pressure drop.
