Customs, anywhere in the world, is an organization whose existence is essential for a country, as well as with the Directorate
General of Customs and Excise (Indonesian Customs Authority) is an authority that has a significant role in Indonesia.

Almost all countries have Customs Authorithies, which is why the Customs-called global institutions, as it is a government
institutions that is very important as well as the Armed Forces, Police, etc.

International uses
The fancy term of Bea Cukai is Customs (English) or
Douane (French language), this term refers to the
collecting fee activities on traded goods that enter
or exit from the British mainland in earlier times.

While the word Bea Cukai derived from the Sanskrit


and Indian uptake, Bea derived from the Sanskrit
origin that is vyaya, which means the cost, while
Cukai derived from Indian language.

Customs and excise system began
1 October 1620 institutionalized modernly during the reign of
the Dutch East Indies

19 August 1945
Finance ministry organization was formed, and
customs became part of the tax office

1 October 1945
Separated from tax office, then formed
Pejabatan Bea dan Cukai

23 October 1948 Changed its name to Jawatan Bea dan Cukai

30 March 1965
Transformed into the Directorate General of
Customs until now.

The Development of Customs


Along with national economic and social development of government policies, it need a change to the
customs and excise law in order to be able to accommodate and empower the role of customs as a revenue
collector.
