Importance of Research
• Based on DepEd Order 39, series of 2016, research
is an important aspect of evidence-based decision
and policy-making. It ensures continuous
improvement and sustains organizational
effectiveness.

• In the context of Navotas National High School,

research specifically action research is a means to
generate instructional interventions to uplift
students’ achievement levels and a tool to create
solutions that will improve school practices and
processes. 37
Principal’s Roles:
• Must be the DRIVING FORCE and

the needs analysis questionnaire.

49
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
2. Opening Program was graced by the no other than the School Division
Superintendent, Dr. Romulo Rocena and SGOD Chief, Ms. Gemma Villaluna. Their
presence was considered a gesture of support to our program.

50
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
3. The school was able to get external partners who are experts on educational
research. Ms. Katy Caragay, research director of Habi Education Lab gave a
lecture-workshop on qualitative data analysis and research methodology.

51
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
4. 130 teachers received intensive
training on developing an action
research project proposal. Thirty
two teacher quality circle groups
were formed as teachers by area of
specialization per year level worked
collaboratively to formulate
research questions, develop
interventions and create work
plans that pertain to their chosen
research focus.

52
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
6. Teachers have been
capacitated to develop
intervention projects that are
aligned to the priority
improvement areas of the
school. Collaboration and
synergy of ideas are evident as
teachers work together to plan,

Conclusion:
1. Action Research can be done, and can be made more fun
and action packed if teachers can be given more chances
for collaboration and professional development processes.
2. Action Research paved the way for our journey to a lifelong
pursuit for continuous improvement process and deliberate
attainment of school vision, mission and goals.

3. Action Research done in NNHS is our simple way of serving

our clientele, our students with passion and with a heart.

4. Engaging community is one important factor to

carry out successful action research program.

School-based Feeding Program

Principal IV
Navotas National High School
OVERVIEW
• Background
• Isang Nanay, Isang Gulay: A School-based Feeding
Program
 Objectives
 How we do it
 Beneficiaries
 Plans for the Future
• Currently, DepEd’s funded School-Based Feeding
Program caters only to schoolchildren from
Kindergarten to Grade 6 (DepEd Order 51 s. 2016) .
• For the secondary schools, school-based feeding
programs are funded through resource mobilization
with the community.
• Navotas National High School, a secondary school with
student population of 3503 students for SY 2016-2017,
has identified undernourished Grade 7 students with
severely wasted to wasted nutritional status.
• This nutritional problem limits students ability to
succeed in the school.
• To address this and other concerns that
need greater parental and stakeholders
engagement, the school initiated the
PARENT VOLUNTEERS BRIGADE.

Breakfast forum was

held to elicit support
from the PTA and a
general assembly was
conducted to inform
and involve all the
parents.

How we do it?
1. Parents plant
the seed at
home.
2. Then, parents
bring the grown
vegetables in
school.
3. Children and teachers raise and take care of
the plants until the vegetables become ripe for
harvest.
4. Upon harvest, the produce will be used for the
school-based feeding program. Some are sold to
the cooperative-managed canteen. The income
generated are kept for the fund of the feeding
program.
5. Just recently, some parents have grown and
raised the vegetables at their own homes.
They brought the produce in school for the
feeding program. After giving their share of
donation, some of their products were also
sold to the canteen and other teachers
enabling them to generate their own money
for their family’s use.
Collaborative Efforts of Eight Learning
Area Departments
• MAPEH – identifies the undernourished Grade 7 students.
• TLE – prepares the food and undertakes the feeding for the
children
• Science and Social Studies – training of students and parents
on vegetable cultivation.
• English/Filipino – documentation and information
dissemination
• Mathematics & Values Dept. – Program implementation
Future plans
1. Further intensify the
efforts to spread the
culture of school-
community
partnerships by
encouraging more
parents to plant
vegetables seed on
their own homes and
selling their produce to
the coop-managed
canteen. Agriculture
training will also be
conducted in school for
parents who want to
learn how to cultivate
plants.
2. Increase the number of beneficiaries. Each
department will be sponsoring 30 students,
increasing the number of number participants
to 240 for this school year.
3. Deepen partnerships with LGU’s
and private donors.
