Wage: an amount of money


that a worker is paid based on
the no. of hours, days, etc.
that are worked.
WAGE ADMINISTRATION
PROCEDURE
These are 6 logical steps toward a pay relationship mutually satisfactory to the
employee and employer. Regardless of job structure or union relationships,
the company intentions are expressed in wage policy, written or unwritten.

WAGE ADMINISTRATION PROCEDURE

Decisions having to do with wage policy and


practice are important. Wage level in relation to
productivity determines the profit margin and,
the competitive position of the enterprise.

Many consideration such as productivity, profit


margin, supply of labor, cost of living, living
standards of employees, climate and cultural
factor will enter into the determination of a
company’s wage policy.
WAGE ADMINISTRATION PROCEDURE

The personal income of individuals within an


industry will also vary widely. Some of this
variation results from the:
1. Aptitude
2. Education
3. Trade training
4. Mental and physical health
JOB ANALYSIS
The mission of job analysis is to determine
how long it should take worker to perform
the task for which they are being paid.

It is particularly important to the success of


incentive wage plans that the units of work be
carefully evaluated and monitored. The
following conditions are essential to the success
of wage incentives:
JOB ANALYSIS
1. Standard conditions and procedures must be
established. These procedures must be the best
method possible, and can be revised when new
methods are used.

2. Management must establish a sound wage policy


for the guidance of its members in wage matters.

3. Company wage structure must be established by


logical means such as job evaluation and community
wage surveys
TIME STUDY
Time study means “putting a price on a job”.
The specialist in this field is known variously as
industrial engineer, time-study engineer, rair
setter or standards person.

The specialist observes the job and record


results. The steps of his observation will
include:

1. A thorough study of possible way of


improving the operation and determining the
quickest and best method.

2. A careful recording of observations made on a
selected average worker.

3. Leveling the observation to correct for minor


variations and bringing the results closer to that
expected from the average worker. Also, the
specialist should be knowledgeable about the
established industry-wide performance standards.

4. Apportioning allowances for personal needs,


delays, and overcoming fatigue.
JOB TITLES
JOB TITLE

In most companies, positions in engineering


department are in this following hierarchy (5 levels,
with a possible 6th level). Sometimes, the order is in
Engineer Level I, Engineer Level 2 and so on.
1. EIT (Engineer-in-Training)
2. Intermediate Engineer
3. Engineer (usually has professional designation at
this point)
4. Senior Engineer (technical or supervisory)
5. Specialist/Management Engineer
6. Advanced Specialist (accredited nationally or
internationally, usually 1 or maybe 2 persons)
