ACCELERATION
At the end of the lesson, we will be able to:
a. define the law of acceleration correctly;
b. determine the connection of mass to
acceleration and force to acceleration through

OBJECTIVES
the actual examples;
c. relate the relationships of mass and force to
acceleration in their real life situations; and
d. solve the given problems correctly; and
e. recall about inertia though the game “Pick a

LAW OF ACCELERATION
states that acceleration
produced to an object is directly
proportional to the magnitude of
the net force and inversely
proportional to the mass of an
object. The direction of the net
force is the direction of the
acceleration.
SAMPLE PROBLEMS
A horizontal force acting
on a 2.0 kg object
produces an acceleration
of 8.0 m/s . Find the
2

magnitude net force

acting on the object.
GIVEN:

m= 2.0 kg;

a= 8.0 m/s 2

REQUIRED: Force

FORMULA: f= ma
SOLUTION:

f= ma
f= (2.0kg)(8.0 m/s )2

ANSWER:
f= 16 N is the magnitude
net force acting on the
object.
A horizontal force of
8.0 N acts on a 4.00
kg mass which is
initially at rest. Find
the acceleration
produced.
GIVEN:
f= 8.0N
m= 4.00kg
REQUIRED:
Acceleration
FORMULA: a= f/m
SOLUTION:

a=F/m
a= 80.0N/4.00kg

a= 20.0 m/s2

ANSWER:

a= 20.0 m/s2
Let’s say that you were only
moving your car about 0.05m/s2,
and the car weighed a total of
1,000kg. You would be able to
plug these two numbers into the
equation to see how much force
you were exerting on the car.
F= ma
F= 1000kg x 0.05m/s2

F= 50 N
HOW ARE WE GOING
TO APPLY
ACCELERATION IN
THE REAL LIFE?
The more strength and faith
we put on our course of
actions, the more we
accelerate towards our
success.
