BEN VAN BERKEL is a Dutch
Architect, born in 1957, studied at the
Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. He
is the
co-founder and Principal Architect
of
UN STUDIO- United Network Studio.

BERKEL succeeds in transforming


Architecture to Sculpture.
With his studio he has designed many
outstanding and important buildings
in many different places of the globe.

THE NEW AMSTERDAM PAVILLION
• THE NEW AMSTERDAM PAVILLION , IS A GIFT FROM THE NETHERLANDS
TO NEWYORK IN HONOUR OF 400 YEARS OF FRIENDSHIP .

• THE PAVILLION HAS A FLOWER - LIKE FORM IN WHICH THE FOUR PETALS
ARE ABSTRACTED INTO FOUR “WINGS”.

• THE GEOMETRIC LOOP IS INTRODUCED TO VIRTUALLY OBSCURE THE


BOUNDARY BETWEEN THE CEILING, WALLS AND FLOOR, TO PROMOTE
INTERGRATION OF THE BUILT FORM WITH ITS SURROUNDING.

THE VILLA NM – UN STUDIO
• THE VILLA NM DESIGNED BY BEN VAN BERKEL, IS SITUATED ON A PLOT OF
7.000 SQ.M WITH A TREAMENDOUS 360 DEGREE VIEW OF THE FORESTS.
• THE SLOPING SITE IS USED AS DEVICE FOR THE PROGRAMMATIC AND
VOLUMETRIC ORGANIZATION OF THE HOUSE.*
• A SINGLE BOX BIFURCATES INTO SEPARATE VOLUMES ONE SEAMLESSLY
FOLLOWING THE NORTHERN SLOPE AND OTHER LIFTED ABOVE THE HILL
CREATING A COVERED PARKING AND GENERATING A SPLIT-LEVEL
INTERNAL ORGANIZATION.
