2
OBJECTIVE
separate the overlapped fingerprints to individual
fingerprints.

separated fingerprints are enhanced to improve the

quality of fingerprint

3
How overlap fingerprints occur ?

Overlapping may also occur in live scan

when the surface of fingerprint sensors
contains the residue of fingerprints of
previous users.

4
Existing method
 In this base paper, a novel algorithm is proposed
to separate overlapped fingerprints into
component or individual fingerprints.

 The basic idea is to first estimate the orientation

field of the given image with overlapped
fingerprints.

5
Existing method
 Manual masking is applied to get overlapped
region

 Then separate it into component orientation fields

using a relaxation labeling technique.

6
Problem Identification
 This algorithm can able to separate only two
fingerprint overlapping .

 In this separation algorithm only good quality

overlapped image considered and it can be only
separated .

 This algorithm requires manually marking of

overlapped fingerprint for region masking.

7
Problem Identification
This separation algorithm contains local Fourier
analysis method of orientation field estimation
which is time consuming process

 After getting two different fingerprint from

overlapped fingerprint , the resulting image is not
exactly as original fingerprints, it has noise and
blurriness .

8
PROPOSED SYSTEM

 Orientation of image is estimated by means of an

adaptive method instead of local Fourier analysis.

 Ridge improvement and edge improvement.

9
Local Fourier Analysis
• Frequency based data analysis .
• Complex and time consuming.
• Sliding window based approach checking
individual pixel.
• Inverse transform is must, it is time consuming.
• Frequency may not obtained for non clear
region.

10
Adaptive Method
• Block based processing carried out.
• Efficient and faster.
• Block approach that can be projected for
the entire image.
• Adapted information can be used to
replace missing region

11
Orientation image
(1)Image is divided into 8 x 8 blocks.

(2)Calculate the angle of the ridge in each block.

(3)Compare the angle with predefined angle (term of pi/2, pi/4,..).

(4)If the block angle matches with predefined angle, block is replace
by a line with angle as predefined.

(5)This is repeated for the entire block, and Orientation image is

formed.

12
Relaxation Labeling
 Relaxation Labeling is methodology for iterative function
optimization.

To identify the labels object to extract local and object

information.

Labels are assigned to the object in the images that have

higher probability of similarity.

 Relaxation labeling is used for different orientation field

identification and processing.

13
Enhancement
Ridge enhancement is done by connecting the broken ridges.
GABOUR is used in enhancement part for connecting broken ridges.
The broken ridges are connected through the process dilation.
Example of GABOR filtering is

14
Enhancement
Estimation of feature points is important to identify an
individual person.

Extraction of more number of feature points is also part of

enhancement

Feature points are estimated by calculating the angle along

the ridges.

If any change in angle occur a feature point is identified.
