Good readers are mindful when they are focused
Connectio and engaged in their reading. They are also aware
n of when they find themselves distracted and have
strategies to get back on track.
I was reading this long [example] text and noticed I
became distracted about halfway through. I noticed when
I was no longer focused because I started to [think about
Teach my lunch, look out the window].

To get back on track, I traced the text back to the spot I

remembered. Then I reread.

We have looked at many text types (narrative, informational,
Connectio opinion). Today we will revisit a text we know well from our
n narrative/informational/opinion unit. We will draw evidence to
support our purpose as writers.
Before we can draw evidence we must remind ourselves our
purpose for why we are analyzing for that evidence. Here are
some examples:
Teach I am showing the different ways we take care of our bodies
I want to find out if the robins at our feeder could be the same
ones that were here last spring
I am arguing that this story has a never give up theme
Active Lets look at the text together; what information from this text will
Engageme help me develop my point?
nt What details or examples should I include?

Now it is time for you to read a text and draw evidence as

Link support. Remember to ask yourself what you are saying is your
purpose in order to analyze.
